DEI BIOPHARMA: BALANCING PUBLIC HEALTH, INVESTMENT PROTECTION AND JOB CREATION
On Friday, 23rd October 2026, I held a follow-up engagement at DEI Biopharma with Hon. Judith Nabakoba, Hon. Dr. Sam Mayanja, the Attorney General, and other leaders to address outstanding community concerns relating to the investment.
I emphasised the need for fair compensation and appropriate relocation of individuals who may be affected by potential health risks associated with the company’s operations.
I also called for reported encroachment on the investment land to be addressed in accordance with the law, including relocation to other properties owned by the affected individuals, where applicable.
Protecting public health and resolving community concerns must go hand in hand with safeguarding legitimate investments. This engagement is important in supporting local pharmaceutical production, creating employment opportunities for Ugandans, and strengthening the country’s capacity to manufacture affordable essential medicines locally.
