I literally just checked with a friend. He has the only PS5 version of BO1 installed, I have only the PS4 version installed. I invited him to my lobby, he was able to join, and we were able to load into and play a match.

If they want to charge you launch price for a 7 year old game there isn't gonna be a way around it anymore without them putting it on sale. And if the sale is bad or doesn't come at all there's no $20 or less used copy for you to seek out.
