London Mayor Sadiq Khan repeatedly refused to apologise to a Met firearms officer acquitted of Chris Kaba's murder. Kaba was shot dead by Sergeant Martyn Blake as he tried to ram his car past police cars during a police stop in Streatham in September 2022.

London Assembly member Susan Hall put Khan under pressure saying he should apologise for not being balanced enough in his support to the officer and his family following murder trial and public reaction.

During the heated exchange the Met Commissioner confirmed Kaba had been a 'core member' of the notorious '67 gang' in Brixton Hill, information which had not been released to the public while the trial was ongoing.

Met Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley has said he is 'astounded' by the resilience shown by officer Martyn Blake and his family following the Chris Kaba murder trial.

It comes after Assembly member Susan Hall criticized the Mayor for not apologising to Blake and accusing Khan of not being balanced and supportive enough.

Sgt Blake was found not guilty of murder last month, prompting protests from the Kaba family. Mr Kaba was shot in the head after he tried to ram his way out of a police vehicle stop in south London.
