Note: I professionally work in the life sciences, pharmaceuticals and health industry, but this account is purely for personal & political activities.
Today I have met Lucy, Mark and Katie, Henry Nowak’s mother, father and stepmother. Their courage is extraordinary.
They have endured the most appalling loss, it is a life sentence for them.
They have also faced the agonising decision to release the harrowing body-worn camera footage, knowing how painful it would be and how strongly people would react. They did so because they want truth, accountability and change.
They have asked that we work across political parties and religions to rebuild trust in the police. That trust has been broken because of what happened, and I agree with them on that.
We must also be prepared to examine, carefully and seriously, religious practices or exemptions that permit the carrying of dangerous weapons in public, and other activities that are not conducive to the public good. We also need to examine where the law needs to change.
Henry’s family do not want anger to tear communities apart. They are a family who have friends across faith and race, and so did Henry. His family want his memory to help bring our society together.
Everyone knows I have strong views about how we should deal with equality under the law. What the family agreed with me on is that we need to bring common sense back, and that is what we should all be fighting for.
I promised the family that we will work to ensure there is a positive legacy for Henry out of this tragedy.
That is my focus now.
This terrible news has really knocked me for six. Alex Younger was a truly outstanding Head of MI6 during my time as PM and an exemplary public servant. He has been taken from us far too soon.
Due to the nature of their work, few fully understand the service and sacrifice made by those working in our intelligence and security services - but be in no doubt, Alex made our country a safer place and we all owe him an enormous debt of gratitude for that.
I had the privilege to continue working with Alex and to remain good friends after we both left office; I will miss him dreadfully. He was a remarkable man - tremendously knowledgable and insightful, but also such fantastic company and fun to be with. Kind, thoughtful; a good man in every sense.
At a time when our world is more confrontational, volatile and, frankly, dangerous, his expertise and great wisdom will be deeply missed. My thoughts and prayers are with Sarah and his family at this sad time.

There’s no getting away from the fact that this is a missed opportunity for men’s health.
The chance to stop more fathers, brothers and sons dying before their time has not been seized.
I will continue to campaign with @PCR_News for a targeted screening programme for prostate cancer because the evidence shows that will save lives.
It was with great sadness that I learned of the passing of Sir Alan Haselhurst.
Sir Alan served the Saffron Walden constituency for 40 years. He held senior roles in Parliament, including Deputy Speaker of the House of Commons and later Father of the House, and was widely respected for his integrity, experience and calm authority.
As his successor, I have the privilege of representing the same constituency, and I know how deeply he cared about North West Essex. He had an encyclopaedic knowledge of its villages, its people and its issues, and a genuine affection for those who live here.
My thoughts are with Lady Haselhurst and his family at this very sad time. Sir Alan will be remembered across North West Essex with great fondness, as well as respect for all he gave to public life.
The bodycam footage of the police response to the stabbing of Henry Nowak is extremely difficult to watch.
Hampshire and Isle of Wright Constabulary have serious questions to answer about the conduct and competence of their officers.
It is shocking that their training and culture led to them treating a victim as a suspect, doubting he had been stabbed and handcuffing him rather than giving him lifesaving first aid or checking him for an injury, despite him clearly telling the officers he had been stabbed and him struggling to breathe.
Simply because they were told he’d been racist.
Their priority, above all else, should have been to save his life.
Labour’s problem in a nutshell.
They believe their job is to tax ‘other people’ to increase benefits to others.
Why? Because for them it’s far easier to spend other people’s money than to back growth.
Good for Pat calling this out. But he’s not in the majority.
A powerful and clinical call to arms from @KemiBadenoch for a new generation of Conservative candidates.
"We need candidates with the five Cs: they must be clever, have charisma, communication skills, conviction and, most importantly, be Conservative."

It is completely wrong that these violent thugs are being let off from a further trial for the assault on PC Marsden
They viciously beat three police officers and the evidence is plain to see on CCTV - including the assaults on female PCs Ward and Cook for which Amaad and Amaaz have already been convicted
At the time, the police officers were falsely accused of racism. This is yet another case of criminals using false allegations of racism to try to get sympathy. With such clear CCTV evidence, we need justice to be done by prosecuting these thugs for all their crimes

Polygamy is illegal in the UK.
But if you’ve married 4 wives overseas and moved here, you could claim up to £78,000 in benefits. Paid for by British taxpayers.
That is absurd. Conservatives will end this.
A very frustrating season, and without a doubt we are all very disappointed. You fans definitely did not deserve this. But football doesn’t always go the way we plan.
Individually, I managed to have the season with the most goal contributions in my career, and I would trade all of that for a better position in the table.
Honestly, I just want to thank the fans for everything. Thank you @nufc 3️⃣9️⃣🖤🤍
Unemployment is now 5% and only half of under-25s are in paid employment.
Every Labour leadership contender should have a coherent answer to how we can reverse these trends and avoid creating a lost generation of young people.

This country needs a Government that has got its act together.
Instead we’ve got Keir Starmer losing his moral compass and backsliding on his support for Ukraine.
After 18 months of “standing up to Putin” the Labour govt quietly issued a licence allowing imports of Russian oil refined in third countries.
Yesterday Labour MPs voted AGAINST UK oil and gas licences.
We are now importing from Russia instead of drilling in the North Sea.
Insane.
