@SONJA_thomas_@MelKitchenEDU@jmattmiller https://t.co/IbVxvKFnXb I've taken google for education certification levels one and two as well as the Nearpod certified educator course.
Came to see the end of the #utleg session, because I’m a nerd like that. Got to see @BenWinslow madly at work keeping us informed. Again this year: Thank you Ben for your work.
Man, the more I read about this so-called "Utah Lake Restoration Project" the less I like it.
Seems like a short-sighted $6.4B move with all the wrong motivations.
Here’s a quick thread of the situation if you aren't up to speed. 🧵 (1/15)
@drewdaybell@LoganTMillsap @EmilyDaybell @elyle3 I would love to meet up and do dinner sometime! That trip was great, these photos are quite the blast from the past! And yeah, I’ve got two Twitter personas because my teacher Twitter is a little too busy to combine feeds. They’re both me though.
Amen! In reading bills like SB 0114 (still in play) and HB 0234 (on 'pause' for this session), I feel that the right-wing distrust of "professionals" means that I need oversight in every decision I make in my classroom, it's quite insulting and more than a little bit disturbing.
@pinkmoose@LoganTMillsap This is a great step but the recent legislation proposed at the state level would overrule local school boards. Luckily HB 234 has been 'paused' but SB 114 is still in play and smells of censorship.
@jonesnews@myuea@jordanteuscher @UEAheidi @jonesnews do we know any reason or impetus behind the bill? Has @jordanteuscher given his reasons why he feels this is needed? Parents can already and do already observe my canvas course. I’ve responded to queries from parents and shared materials. Why the government mandate?
Today was discussing policies, on these days I often make self deprecating comments like: "I'm sorry it's a long listen to Mr. Evans day."
One boy came up after and said: "I like listen to Mr. Evans days."
me: "Yeah?"
student: "Yeah, you make it funny!"
-WIN!
Sweet Funnies from day 2 as a middle school:
In passing while explaining bellwork I mentioned today was my wife's birthday. One sweet 6th grader came up after the period and with a very serious face said: "Make sure you tell your wife one of your student's says Happy Birthday"
So, as a teacher here in Utah I am really confused about what people are asking for in a "ban" on critical race theory in Utah. If you read the core standards for U.S. History in Utah https://t.co/z1aYkPzvJl where are they concerned? What do they want to ban in the core?
