For those beating the drums of war, listen to a man who has seen and fought wars both at home and abroad.
Major General Godwin Mutkut is a battle-tested General and currently serves as the Commander of the Nigerian Army Infantry Corps at Jaji, Kaduna.
It's very easy to see one individual own two opay account, that's hardly the case with traditional bank and going by this reason, I will say the number of unique user on opay will be 40% lesser than the total user reported. But nevertheless they've achieved a great feat.
OPay: 45–50M users in Nigeria alone
GTCO: ~24M group-wide
Zenith: ~35M group-wide
UBA: ~45M group-wide
A Chinese-founded fintech is matching or beating Nigeria’s biggest banks on pure user numbers in one market.
Traditional banks that still treat customer acquisition like it’s 2015 are cooked. The next 10 years won’t be kind.
“Once you are deployed, do not wait for any order from anybody to shoot any bandit or any terrorist. Anybody who refuses to shoot or kill any bandit or terrorist in the name of waiting for an order, we will treat you like a bandit.”

The Turkish Lira is now down over 99.995% against the US Dollar from its all-time high.
Turkey sold nearly $26 BILLION in gold and Treasury bills this year trying to defend the currency.
Even after all that intervention, the Lira is still making new all time lows almost every week.
I tried to create a kuda business account and when it gets to the tin part. I input the TIN I just received from my CAC document but it's not accepting it and instead requesting for the one that has a -0001 ending

Buying a phone or gadget as a tech person in these gadget shops at computer village is always funny.
"Sir, let me help you setup your phone because this is the first time it's coming on."
Do you have any idea when I was bending Symbians to my will, and rooting Android phones on varied modes? DO YOU?
Anyway, I just nod, smile and let them. 😅
@DeepLcom great work on your language translation so far, can you please include Yoruba on your list of supported language. I can see some other Nigeria language are already available.
NIGERIA'S FOREIGN RESERVES CROSS $50 BILLION
The Benefits of a Large Reserve Buffer
Nigeria’s gross external reserves crossed $50 billion for the first time in 17 years, reaching $50.11 billion on June 5, 2026, according to CBN data. The milestone places Nigeria fourth on the continent for reserve holdings and provides 9.68 months of import cover, the strongest external buffer the country has held since 2008.
IMF says naira is 25% undervalued despite FX reforms
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) says the naira remains undervalued by 25.6 percent despite recovering some ground against the US dollar following Nigeria’s foreign exchange (FX) reforms.
An undervalued currency means the exchange rate is weaker than what economic fundamentals would ordinarily support.
Iyin co-founded andela at 23, flutterwave at 25 and was able to raise millions in $, right now founders around 23-25 are struggling to raise $50k to fund their ideas , even after showing good promise , building an mvp and having sufficient traction.
Why has it become harder for young founders in Nigeria to raise money right now?
I won't be surprised if David Umahi is given the presidential slot to represent South East, when the time comes. He's a lover of Nigeria and he has proven himself with his commitment towards the legacy road projects under Tinubu but what do I know.
and we all want a good Nigeria 😂, the comments are sickening. People kept talking about entitlement, the tip is justify in this case but never condemned the staff sending the security on a food errand. This simply shows an average Nigeria will abuse anybody below them. 🤦
Since our new security man resumed work in March, my colleague usually sends him to get her lunch.
She usually sends ₦5,000 to his Opay.
The food she buys doesn't exceed ₦4,000, hence the extra tip is for him.
She has done this everyday since that March.
On Tuesday, as she sent him as usual, she later called him on phone to add Tigernut which is sold for ₦1,700 without sending any extra money.
Only for our security guy to call her, and asked for the extra ₦700.
My colleague didn't pay attention to him, because she was busy at work.
Only for our security guy to come back to the office to ask for the extra ₦700 without even buying the food.
Angrily, she asked him to send back her ₦5,000 that she wasn't interested in the food again.
Now our security guy went and told HR that since this week, that my colleague totally snubs his greetings, and it is making him so uncomfortable.
I remember some years ago, while doing odd jobs at PZ here at Nigeria during my undergrad holidays periods. I quit after a while and it was not due to laziness but because I understand the trap of not having time to brainstorm on better opportunities.
My cousin told me two things when I got to the UK as a student. First was. Never do odd jobs; they are a trap. Second, sort out everything related to credit on time, as you are looking for something better to do.
That guy I met at Enfield 22 years ago, who was washing cars, did not have a credit card or a mortgage. He kept sending money home, but it kept losing value, thanks to inflation. Meanwhile, I know someone who has bought over 40 properties using the UK banking system (before the rules changed), and their properties have appreciated.
I have relatives who have lived abroad for decades and are still struggling with the mortgage for one property, and others who have a portfolio of assets, including businesses. The difference was how they started. Those who started with "struggle jobs" somehow maintain that siege mentality and think small.
Survival usually limits people's options, but I learned early that doing software testing gigs from the school library was a more sustainable option than carrying boxes at Tesco. If you have a university degree, you have to think bigger and better than those who do not.
🇨🇳China tackled its waste problem by building over 1,000 waste-to-energy plants, using a 150-year-old technology on a massive scale.
Now, some cities even import trash to keep the system running. Turning pollution into power has become a global model!
