The @IGADsecretariat, in collaboration with @NBS_Somalia, has launched a 3-day Technical Working Group on Migration & Displacement Statistics
The workshop supports ongoing national & regional efforts to establish platforms for collaboration and advance data harmonization across the region.
It will also offer a platform to reflect on key findings from the 2nd Migration & Displacement Statistics Report (launched April 13, 2026)—a major milestone in strengthening Somalia’s data landscape.

Today’s military strikes on Iran — carried out by the United States and Israel — mark a catastrophic escalation in an illegal war of aggression. Bombing cities. Killing civilians. Opening a new theater of war. Americans do not want this. They do not want another war in pursuit of regime change. They want relief from the affordability crisis. They want peace.
I am focused on making sure that every New Yorker is safe. I have been in contact with our Police Commissioner and emergency management officials. We are taking proactive steps, including increasing coordination across agencies and enhancing patrols of sensitive locations out of an abundance of caution.
Additionally, I want to speak directly to Iranian New Yorkers: you are part of the fabric of this city — you are our neighbors, small business owners, students, artists, workers, and community leaders. You will be safe here.
Twenty years ago we invaded Iraq. The war killed many innocent Iraqis and Americans. It destroyed the oldest Christian populations in the world. It cost over $1 trillion, and turned Iraq into a satellite of Iran. It was an unforced disaster, and I pray that we learn its lessons.
Sudan update: UAE-backed RSF mercenaries are collapsing. The Sudanese Armed Forces are reclaiming rebel territory fast but don’t expect Western media to headline it. Read my latest article. https://t.co/JYyTee8g3m

Fourteen Arab and Islamic countries, along with the Secretariats of the Gulf Cooperation Council, the League of Arab States, and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation condemn statements made by the United States Ambassador to Israel, in which he indicated that it would be acceptable for Israel to exercise control over territories belonging to Arab states, including the occupied West Bank
Doha | 21 February 2026
The Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar, the Arab Republic of Egypt, the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, the Republic of Indonesia, the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, the Republic of Türkiye, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the State of Kuwait, the Sultanate of Oman, the Kingdom of Bahrain, the Lebanese Republic, the Syrian Arab Republic, and the State of Palestine, and the secretariats of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), the League of Arab States (LAS), and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) express their strong condemnation and profound concern regarding the statements made by the United States Ambassador to Israel, in which he indicated that it would be acceptable for Israel to exercise control over territories belonging to Arab states, including the occupied West Bank.
They affirm their countries’ categorical rejection of such dangerous and inflammatory remarks, which constitute a flagrant violation of the principles of international law and the Charter of the United Nations, and pose a grave threat to the security and stability of the region.
The Ministries stress that these statements directly contradict the vision put forward by U.S. President Donald J. Trump, as well as the Comprehensive Plan to End the Gaza Conflict, which are based on containing escalation and creating a political horizon for a comprehensive settlement that ensures the Palestinian people have their own independent state. They underscored that the plan is grounded in promoting tolerance and peaceful coexistence, and that remarks seeking to legitimize control over the lands of others undermine these objectives, fuel tensions, and constitute incitement rather than advancing peace.
The Ministries reaffirm that Israel has no sovereignty whatsoever over the Occupied Palestinian Territory or any other occupied Arab lands. They reiterated their firm rejection of any attempts to annex the West Bank or separate it from the Gaza Strip, their strong opposition to the expansion of settlement activities in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, and their categorical rejection of any threat to the sovereignty of Arab states.
They further warn that the continuation of Israel’s expansionist policies and unlawful measures will only inflame violence and conflict in the region and undermine the prospects for peace and called for an end to these incendiary statements. The Ministries underscored their countries’ steadfast commitment to the inalienable right of the Palestinian people to self-determination and to the establishment of their independent state along the lines of 4 June 1967, and the end of the occupation of all Arab lands.

Today at State House Entebbe, I welcomed Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, head of the Rapid Support Forces, who briefed me on the current situation in Sudan. As always, I emphasized that dialogue and a peaceful political solution are the only sustainable paths to stability for Sudan and the region.
Sayid Mohamed Abdulle Hassan remains one of the most influential figures in Somali history. He founded the Dervish Movement to resist colonial powers who threatened the Somali society and Islam, uniting thousands in a struggle that lasted over two decades against British, Italian, and Ethiopian forces. Once dismissed as the “Mad Mullah,” he is today remembered as the Father of Somali Nationalism
Likewise, @AbdikerM. It was a truly productive session at the #MRP launch. We value the partnership with @UNmigration and look forward to strengthening our collaboration to address the migration challenges facing Somalia and the wider region.
