Iran has asked Pakistan on multiple occasions to get Iranian oil and electricity on subsidized rates. But due to the Saudi factor, these talks never materialized. The Makran region of Balochistan has been getting 75 percent of its electricity from Iran (informally). It is not bad to formalise such trade if it’s better for the bordering communities on both sides. But until that happens, and due to lack of basic utilities, this informal trade is the only lifeline for the people.
