🚨 Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal situation explained:
🔸 Ronaldo initially planned to retire from international football after the World Cup.
🔸 Portugal’s federation president and Jorge Jesus convinced him he still had an important role, leading him to continue.
🔸 The original agreement was for Ronaldo to feature in both home matches but sit out the two away fixtures.
🔸 Jesus later changed those plans and asked Ronaldo to be involved against Norway. Ronaldo warmed up but was ultimately left on the bench.
🔸 Ronaldo was then told he could feature away against Denmark — another change from what had originally been agreed.
🔸 The 41-year-old reportedly felt misled and disrespected by how the situation was handled, particularly by comments made publicly.
🔸 The situation reached breaking point after Jesus’ press conference, with Ronaldo unhappy that he did not publicly address what had happened.
Ronaldo subsequently left the Portugal camp, potentially bringing an extraordinary international career to an abrupt end.

🚨 MAJOR BREAKING: Premier League confirm an independent Commission has found Manchester City GUILTY OF ALL CHARGES related to serious breaches of the Premier League’s financial rules over a nine-season period, and the majority of charges in relation to its failure to co-operate with the League’s investigation.
The club has the right to appeal the independent Commission’s findings and has until Friday 2 October to exercise that right.
The Premier League Board’s intention is that the full process (including any appeals and publication of relevant decisions) is concluded as soon as possible.
The independent Commission found that between Seasons 2009/10 and 2017/18:
- Manchester City arranged ‘sham’ contracts (which misrepresented the true agreement between the parties) with a number of its commercial partners, as well as relying on ‘sham’ agreements with others, to artificially inflate the club’s revenues and reduce its costs
- The club filed misstated accounts and concealed the true state of its finances from its auditors and football regulators
- Manchester City was significantly in breach of both the Premier League’s and UEFA’s spending limits
- During the Premier League’s investigation, Manchester City committed multiple breaches of its duties of co-operation and utmost good faith towards the League (three of the four alleged breaches were upheld)
Many of us fell in love with Cristiano Ronaldo when we were kids.
For some, he was the first footballer we truly connected with. We grew up watching him play, watching him score, watching him celebrate, watching him turn impossible situations into something ordinary.
We watched him at Manchester United, then watched him become something else entirely at Real Madrid. We watched the Champions League nights, the hat-tricks, the free-kicks, the ridiculous jumps, the celebrations, the comebacks, the records.
We copied his celebrations in our compounds, on football pitches, in school, everywhere. Some of us wore his shirt with pride. Some of us even tried to play like him, even though most of us could never get anywhere close.
But that is what made Cristiano different.
He wasn’t just a footballer we admired. He became part of our childhood.
Many of us have grown up with Ronaldo. There are people who cannot remember a time when Cristiano Ronaldo wasn’t playing football at the highest level. We went from being kids watching him on television to adults watching what might be the final chapter of his career.
And that is why the day Cristiano retires is going to hurt.
Because it won’t feel like we are simply losing a footballer.
It will feel like we are closing a chapter of our lives.
No more waiting for Ronaldo in any kind of game. No more wondering whether he will score another hat-trick. No more seeing him stand over a free-kick. No more hearing the stadium erupt after another goal. No more watching that familiar celebration.
Football will continue. New stars will come. New records will be broken. Another generation will find their own Cristiano Ronaldo.
But for those of us who grew up watching him, nobody will ever replace what he meant to us.
We didn’t just watch his career.
We watched our childhood unfold alongside it.
So when he finally walks away, I think many of us will sit back and realise just how lucky we were.
Lucky to witness the entire journey.
From the young boy with the dream, to the player who conquered almost everything there was to conquer.
Cristiano Ronaldo gave us memories that will stay with us for the rest of our lives.
And when the final whistle eventually comes, it won’t just be goodbye to one of the greatest footballers we have ever seen.
It will be goodbye to a player who was there when many of us fell in love with football.
A part of our childhood will retire with him.
And that is why, when that day comes, it is going to be emotional.
