I have just voted in the @NEUnion preliminary #PayUp ballot!
@GillianKeegan if this Government won't save our schools and colleges, we will. #InvestInEducation
Vote now at 👉https://t.co/eygo81UGSC
Just to be clear - that none of the £900m per annum for schools or of the £285m per annum for FE/6th form colleges is coming from increased fees for migrants.
That money would cover 3.5% for most schools.
NAHT and ASCL tell us most heads had budgeted for 3.5% pay rises.
The £900m extra that NEU members action has won is to cover the 3% increase from 3.5% to 6.5%
How wages have faired.
MPs: Pay ⬆️ 22% in real terms since 2010
Bankers: Bonuses ⬆️ 101% in cash terms since 2008
CEOs: Pay ⬆️ 23% in 2022 alone
Teachers: Pay 🔻 24% since 2010
Nurses: Pay 🔻 20% since 2010
Whose wages are causing the inflation?
THE CALL
Imagine having a really important interview that you’ve prepared years for and you badly want to ace. You’ve worked as hard as you could and have committed your life to it.
Imagine every night going to bed, wondering if it’ll be the next day. But it doesn’t come that next day, the next month or even the next year. The pressure builds and you start to jump when the phone goes between 10am-12pm every day, ready to drop everything for the interview to start.
Imagine knowing that when it finally does come that there’s a good chunk of luck involved and it’ll depend on who interviews you on that day and what they happen to focus on and see.
Imagine praying for one of the good interviewers but you end up with one of the bad ones, who doesn’t listen and has their own agenda but there’s nothing you can do about it.
Imagine it leaves you in pieces and everyone know it’s not fair, but, so be it, and all that will now come your way.
Imagine knowing that that you can’t tell anyone the outcome of the interview, and you have to carry that around, on your own, for what feels like forever.
Imagine what that does to a person.
Imagine a better way.
As I keep getting asked:
This is the petition you need to sign urgently - Julia Waters has just asked if we could get more to please sign. Retweet, send to all social media sites, whatever you can! Thank you!

@GillianKeegan Easiest ‘reject’ I’ve given in my life. Insulting offer. It’s the kids who will suffer from your 4% unfunded offer & those with SEND who will suffer the most due to inevitable redundancies that will limit vital support. #valueourkids#payup
It is the easiest decision to REJECT this insulting government pay ‘offer’ for us teachers. Unfunded. A grand as a pay off?! They even tried to force unions to present it in a neutral or positive way! Solidarity with fellow members in the @NEUnion ✊ #PayUp#RejectTheOffer#NEU
Tonight is a reminder that you can switch in minutes to join the @NEUnion as your own union has not taken proactive action to address the woeful situation imposed on the teaching profession and join us in creating a bigger voice to strike. We need EVERY teacher #EnoughIsEnough
This isnt an offer from Government it is an insult.
£1000 non-consolidated.
4.5% in September
AND UNFUNDED!
I will be voting to REJECT. No more pay cuts!
A teacher in 6th year:
🏴 £48.5k (from Jan)
🏴 £44K (from Sept)
🏴 £39K
Vote no! Full funding and parity is what we need
So now we see the value of education.
£1000, before tax, and a below inflation increase for next year of 4.5%.
Not fully funded.
Less than fire service, doctors, railway workers and the offer to teachers in Wales and Scotland.
That’s how little they value education.
We’re striking for the leaders who go home in tears,
Because of high stakes accountability and their Ofsted fears.
For the leaders who know what it should really be like,
But their ideas aren’t listened to and we end up on strike.
(8/9)
We’re striking for the leaders with the impossible task,
Of keeping everyone going with an impossible ask.
For the leaders to get even more out of their shattered staff,
Balance school improvement with wellbeing? You’re having a laugh.
