@_MrJohnson_@SparxReader@Team_English1 Our library lessons (yr7/8) follow the same routine: I read a short story, discussion, then they do Sparx (or book). Most choose Sparx because it contributes to their homework. Live monitoring on the board so I can if anyone logs off and follow progress. They have iPads
@KateJones_teach Unfortunately, even when they are told and even have lessons dedicated to effective revision strategies, some of them still seem to revert to this. Is it because it's an easier option than thinking hard? Or something else? So frustrating
What a fabulous blog! This approach of Simon Mole asking students to act as advisors & 'editors' of his work is clearly not only fantastic for his final published work but amazing for the children's learning about reading, writing & thinking about poetry! https://t.co/SepWqfB6Md
@LauraLolder hi Laura sorry for the public tweet - I can't DM without upgrading to premium ๐. I'm a member (brilliant btw!) but the P2 downloads for Christmas /London are the wrong files. Thanks!
Does anyone have any recommendations for a spelling app/subscription other than 'Spelling Shed' that has worked to improve spelling in KS3? We've had Spelling Shed for years, but I need to try something else. Thanks #teamenglish#spelling#literacy ๐
@MaryMyatt I should add that we've had really insightful comments and discussions from students who would usually be seen as those 'who struggle'. We always start by saying it's ok not to know every single word, let the story wash over you.
@MaryMyatt We've done before/after surveys and student feedback is really positive. Reading ages are making great strides ahead - but we do so much with reading, it's hard to pinpoint the exact factor. Our current year 9s started in yr 7, so it will be interesting to see the impact in ks4
Charles Dickens' opening paragraph for 'A Tale of Two Cities' (in which he describes the state of affairs in the year 1775 A.D.) may somehow feel oddly familiar.
@AlexJQuigley Thanks for this. I'm trying to help a few students with handwriting intervention. I marked GCSE exams this year and it really highlighted the issue.
