I find that nonfiction sources offer students a great way to initially have students engage critically with texts because they offer facts and opinions and develop an argument. Have you tried using nonfiction in the younger grades? @S_Belzunce @Melissa93519457

@BeighleySarah @Melissa93519457 @S_Belzunce Agreed! I find that you need to have a balance. I often use nonfiction to supplement fictional text (like we read a fictional story on a man struggling with survivor's guilt and I use a NYT article about real life survivors guilt.

@S_Belzunce @Melissa93519457 such as finding the facts and highlighting in blue, the opinions and highlighting in green and finding support for the arguments and highlighting in orange.

@S_Belzunce @Melissa93519457 I find that using really good graphic organizers helps. I also utilize different color highlighters to have them identify different parts as they read. I agree, it is harder! You could try giving them the argument and having them work (to begin) to just identify the other parts.

Web Literacy is tough for some students! What may be the most challenging is the "code" and "remix" portions of the chart. We need to teach our students these skills before they can succeed and wow us!I agree with you @hellewell_amy navigate and search are super important skills!
