Taking risks and being aware of digital citizenship are key to being digital literate. Using twitter to communicate with parents about classroom activities is a great way to model its use in a responsible way for young learners.

Balance is the key.. as educators, showing balance between reading to learn and reading for fun. A strong reader can be successful at anything!

I have a student who is in the knock knock jokes.. he can’t put the book down. I see him reading on the playground, at lunch and during class! He asks to share a joke everyday with the class.. this is exactly why choice is a must.. he is critically engaged!

@4thGradeTeache1 Choice is so big when it comes to reading engagement. Reading to self with flex seating in the classroom is a highly sought after activity !

@4thGradeTeache1 @StephanieKiesel One of my biggest struggles is keeping up with the various social media like @4thGradeTeache1 suggested. I, too use Instagram to keep up with photos of friends but other than that never had much of an interest in social media

Digital literacies are a wonderful tool but require trial@and error along with critical thinking! I suspect learning and understanding how to protect ones online privacy and digital footprint would be a constant struggle.
