Thatโs a wrap! Thank you to @NCTM for organizing another fabulous conference and THANK YOU to @LCPS_Math for the opportunity to attend! #NCTMDC23#mtbos#iteachmath
At #NCTMDC23 and I saw this amazing new tool from @hand2mind. It shows how the equal sign is directly related to the greater than and less than symbols! Wow!
โInviting, Listening to, and Leveraging Studentsโ Ideas: It All Starts with Noticing and Wonderingโ with @ClaireVerti and Notice & Wonder Woman @MFAnnie was a great reminder to accept ALL answers verbatim without โrevoicing.โ Check out my cool new laptop sticker! @NCTM#NCTMDC23
SO EXCITED I got to meet @ddmeyer! โMake Yourself a Technology-Proof Teacherโ was a wonderful reminder that teaching is the process of inviting, celebrating, and developing student thinking! โStudents like and learn from teachers who like and learn from them.โ @NCTM#NCTMDC23
Next: โCentering Students as the Facilitators of Discourseโ with @annmgaffney and Anna Roberds. How we as teachers can give students the space to generate thoughtful questions because we learn mathematics through TALKING about it! Great new task idea, too! @NCTM#NCTMDC23
Today a student in @CherylHelbing's Geometry class asked why there are 360 degrees in a circle - a great question and I didn't know the answer! A quick Google search yielded a lot of interesting information but no definitive answer! @RoarPride @LCPS_Math #mtbos#iteachmath
Ss in @lvhsPiMan's class have been learning to count... in other bases! One S shared a magic trick based on ๐ base 2. Turns out there was a "bug" in the trick, which sparked a great discussion about how much we learn from mistakes and de-bugging code! @LVHS_official @LCPS_Math
Mr. Powers fosters international mindedness with his intro to the squeeze theorem! He shared the French (Thรฉorรจme des gendarmes) and Russian names and some of the history behind it. His accompanying graphic also helped the theorem stick with his Ss! @LVHS_official @LCPS_Math
Mrs. Andrea got her students communicating at the beginning of class with a slow reveal graph (https://t.co/L6Up22pKUC), and they later engaged in a collaborative learning station! @LVHS_official @LCPS_Math #MTBoS#ITeachMath
Mrs. Polinski set a great tone for the year by having students complete the 100 Numbers task in groups, write individual reflections on what group work looks and sounds like in math, and share out in small and whole groups on the first day of class! @RoarPride @LCPS_Math #MTBoS
