Affinity Groups are safe spaces for teachers of color to come together and form community 🌎
So thankful for the opportunity to be the facilitator of this wonderful group.
Last one of the year but this is only the beginning 🤩
Language shapes perspectives.
Embracing an asset-based approach towards multilingual learners and their families amplifies their strengths and contributions.

Multilingual learners flourish when Instruction is infused with language. That means that every teacher and every content area, deliberately plans instruction that incorporates, listening, speaking reading and writing.

Quick read about the #ScienceOfReading and EBs/EMs. “What isn’t being talked about as part of the Science of Reading is how students learn to read in dual language bilingual education program settings, that is what happens in biliteracy development.” https://t.co/z9xwgD66Th
The read aloud was in ENGLISH…but in their brain, they were also thinking & making connections en ESPAÑOL.
The power of TRANSLAGUAGING is something I highly encourage in our newcomers’ classroom & in content classroom I serve.
Using home language to express high order thinking and learning empowers students.
It’s a window into their brain — and language oppression vanishes allowing creativity to take over 🙌🏽 #LanguageMatters
When we tell a kid in our dual language classrooms “así no se dice, la palabra correcta es….” we become language oppressors. Instead, we must validate their words (and their cultures) and explain when we would use other forms.
Not sure if anyone would want this or not but I figured I'd share it! This is a listening guide that goes with a this-or-that structure (Real or Fake) for Taylor Swift song titles! Low-stakes participation & a just-for-fun topic.

Oracy precedes literacy.
This is especially important for emergent bilingual students or bilingual/multilingual learners.
How do you ensure that oracy is paramount in daily practices?

It’s important to capture the language repertoires of each ML. MLs bring beautiful complex language that should be captured and responded to in a linguistically and culturally appropriate way. I created the ML profile to help guide the work and it’s working great! #multilingual
April is National Bilingual/Multilingual Learner Advocacy Month. This a month to celebrate and spotlight the beauty of diversity and the assets languages bring to our communities. @edgar_dlm_gtz@School_D15
Throwing it back to these lovely smiling faces at #EmpowerCon 2023! Register for 2024 to see what fun & excitement we have in store for this year! https://t.co/Lwl0HRNV9F
Having knowledge of Translanguaging, metalinguistic awareness and cross-linguistic awareness is a Multilingual Superpower. Another way way our languages elevate even SOR. #Multilingual
