No more positive, negative, positive feedback sandwiches.
The positives should be so overwhelming, specific, and frequent that when we need to say the hard thing, we can say it directly and clearly.
It’s more genuine and productive this way.
A great way to join us in supporting the Great Lakes is wearing our gear and donating to Stand Up For the Great Lakes. Find awesome #greatlakes2me gear here for a great cause! https://t.co/2FjxtqGrW3
Check out this great addition to the World Water Day discussion by my 5th and 6th grade students! Follow #greatlakes2me and #water2me to join the conversation on March 22nd
Completely agree! I have found the more open you are with students about the purpose of your classroom structure and practices the more open to it they are. This causes them to take ownership of routines because they understand how they will help them grow.
@mwmedvinsky @MyTLee3 Yes! As a new instructional coach I am still learning, but I know I want to foster inquiry practices for our staff just as much as our students
A3: Giving students options for sharing their voice and seeing them empowered to keep doing it. Podcasts, videos, essays...all shared with public audiences have shown my students the impact they can have. Students now ask for their work to be shared publicly
@MrsBrooksWPES @mwmedvinsky @RonRitchhart Love this. I have been looking into choice boards and how they can be used for assessment but also to amplify student voice in the classroom. Some great work from @spencerideas has been helping me along the way
A2: Implementing Genius Hour to give them time to dig into their curiosities, but also structure to teach them how to take ownership of their learning and find the answers to questions they are asking
A1: When Ss are given power of choice and share their learning with the world, they are more engaged (mastery), see themselves as feeding their passion (identity), and view themselves as individuals who can add value to the world via their ideas (creativity) #PMTVchat
I've been spending lots of time reflecting on the semester away from the classroom and how it will impact my teaching. New podcast episode: Lessons I Learned from Distance Learning - Episode 6 https://t.co/w35WHkxCKS
