Today is a struggle. Struggling with focus, struggling with the inequities in the system, struggling to know how to best help the 50% of kids that are engaging, struggling to keep up with the constant tracking, struggling to know at what point do I stop trying to reach out
@GotMathHelp Yep!We do some flipped instruction; sometimes homework is taking notes with a video. We use every second of class time for AP-style practice.Doing that at home isn’t beneficial for most of them because of rigor; they give up or get it wrong or don’t put full effort bc of other hw
@GotMathHelp @davidwees I hate that!!! Students absolutely do not need that much homework if they’re learning during and using all of class time well. I give maybe 60-80 minutes of homework for the whole week.
i’m the only kid at Harvard right now, class of 2023, that’s from Chicago and didn’t go to
-a selective enrollment school
-a private school
-a predominately affluent suburban school
i’m the only Chicago neighborhood school kid. it’s sad but I DID THAT and i’m proud of myself!!
@CalcMedic@CollegeBoard When will the releases begin?! Are you anticipating releasing throughout the year on a weekly schedule (or daily or monthly)?! Anything before the year begins? I’m SO excited about this!
@howie_hua I spent significant time supporting students- I couldn’t sleep at night thinking of their challenges and what more I could do to help. In the end, I still felt like I wasn’t doing enough or doing it right. Next year I’d like to give myself more grace; my best is all I can give.
If youre angry about the college cheating scandal wait till you hear that public school budgets are determined by local property taxes and that the rich cordon themselves off into segregated municipalities to hoard resources from poor communities of color who get stuck w charters
Now that the Hollywood Bribery Ring has been busted, the only thing helping rich kids get into college are legacy admissions, private tutors, board member connections, unpaid summer internships, interview coaches, and a lifetime of Ivy-bound grooming!!!
This is why I tell students that they shouldn’t feel like imposters because despite all the odds they are still sitting in the same classrooms, doing the same jobs, and now I can add, “ and your mon and dad didn’t even have to bribe anyone”
