September went by in the blink of an eye. 👁️ From alphabet “boot camp” with the kinders, to phonics fun with third grade, to reading interest bingo in fourth, we learned a lot and had a lot of fun, too. It’s shaping up to be a great year in AIS reading.
How AWESOME is this?!? Super-talented ELA teacher (and advisor for the GFHS Cast With Care knitting/crocheting club) Mrs. Erin Wever likes the new Black Bear mascot so much she crocheted a blanket! She hung it in her classroom to inspire students this year. 😍🐾 #GFNation
Effective teachers don't focus so much on rules, but more on relationships, routines, & expectations. If you focus mainly on rules, you will spend most of the year enforcing them. But if you focus on relationships, routines, & expectations, you rarely have to defer back to rules.
Teachers, want to take something off your plate? Put HW in the trash, especially for elementary grades. Let students go home to run, play, and enjoy being a child. And read a little after playing. Then they come to school recharged instead of stressed out and you will too!
"By the end, they were saying these phrases to each other and THAT was beautiful."

🤩Bravo to GFHS rising senior Ava LaVine, 1 of only 150 talented young singers across the USA and Canada invited to rehearse and perform under the baton of Dr. Rollo Dilworth in the Pro Musica International Choral Festival in Vancouver, British Columbia!! 🎶
The power of reading at home extends far beyond the pages of a book. Children who are read to 3 times a week by a family member are almost twice as likely to score in the top 25% in reading compared to children who are read to less than 3 times a week.

🐾Thanks to the Glens Falls Foundation, Hallwear, and Finch Paper, EVERY #GFNation student gets a Black Bears T-shirt! Kudos to our grants team who championed this equity initiative for *all* students to feel included + valued by getting their own shirt at no cost to families❤️🖤
A new study concludes that teaching young children a broad core curriculum removes income-related disparities in reading skills. But the study included very few low-income students. @jillbarshay@hechingerreport
