“We believe that it is unconstitutional to scapegoat women for speaking out against sexual harassment”
Read our full statement below:
We at Document Women are deeply concerned about the handling of the sexual harassment petition against Senate President Godswill Akpabio by the Senate Committee on Ethics, Code of Conduct, and Public Petitions.
In addition to the case being dismissed for “procedural flaws”, the petitioner, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Ufuaghan, has been suspended for six months without pay and is required to write an apology letter for the Senate to consider lifting or reducing her suspension. Alarmingly, this judgment was delivered by the individual accused in a case he also presided over.
This situation represents an assault on justice, and it poses a risk of a similar miscarriage of justice for every Nigerian woman. We believe that it is unconstitutional to scapegoat women for speaking out against sexual harassment. No legal technicality should overshadow the seriousness of allegations of sexual harassment, which merit a thorough, impartial, and transparent investigation.
This misuse of legalities reflects an institution that frequently silences women and raises concerns about its integrity in ensuring that all Nigerians, regardless of gender, are treated with dignity and respect.
While we applaud Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan for resubmitting the sexual harassment petition against Akpabio, this should never have happened in the first place. We are therefore calling for Senate President Akpabio to step down to allow for an independent investigation.
Our legislative processes should not be used as tools to silence those seeking justice. We stand in solidarity with Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan and all women who bravely come forward with similar allegations.
We urge the Senate and relevant authorities to ensure a fair and transparent investigation, free from procedural obstacles, in order to uphold the principles of ethical governance, accountability, justice, and equality for all.
Signed,
Document Women.
2. The waiting area is outdoors, exposing children to the elements and all manner of bugs. I feel a lot can be done to improve the standards. The doctors are professional and knowledgeable but the environment reduces their efforts, Please sir look into this matter.
@seyimakinde Greetings Your Excellency. I respect how connected you are to the grassroot. Please can you look into the management of the Children’s Hospital at Oni and Sons. Children come out of admission worse for wear cos the mosquitoes feast on them. Waste management is poor.
Lol. This guy is committing so many criminal offenses at once it's crazy. He's still chatting with me. He says he got her number from the system after she registered and left cos he couldn't help himself. JAMB where are my daughter's data protection rights?
If you know this person, especially if you are a woman please be wary of him. His media tells reflects who he is but even more so, he just posted the photo of a 15-year old claiming she is old enough.
Again, the worst of our society are on Twitter with us. Armed robbers, kidnappers, paedophiles and other such criminals. Stay safe. And beware of the games you play. All these, “post a black and white photo” or “post a photo of you in front of your house” etc are stupid games that come with stupid rewards we mostly don’t hear about!
Stinginess is a characteristics I detest so much.
If I sense you are a stingy person, I would give you a very long rope.
From your attitude madam, please accept this fact from me: You are a very stingy woman.
If not that Chika decided to come to the public, you would have abandoned him with your heartlessness and might even block him.
Whether he's depressed or not, you didn't give a damn. While he respected you, you disrespected him because you believed you're above him and probably have a mob who might come to your defence.
Rating you as per emotional intelligence, you lack it.
You would not make a good leader at all.
You are heartless and disrespectful.
Try to pay Chika his money and compensate him for the time that has elapsed.
I am more than disappointed in your act of selfishness.
25 yr old pizza delivery man runs into burning house, saves four children who tell him another might be in the house. He goes back in, finds the girl, jumps out a window with her, and carries her to a cop who captures the moment on his bodycam.
My hubby drops our baby at the daycare every morning, all the teachers keeps asking him where she get her pretty clothes from. The day some of the teacher saw me, they were like oh you are her mum, we like how you dress her, we like her hair too, bla bla bla.
I was blushing ☺️☺️☺️.
A 15 yr old girl was trafficked in Colombia by American, Victor Galarza (sentenced to 17.5 years in prison). Her abuse was filmed by Herbert Fletcher (sentenced to 7.5 years in prison) and then uploaded to P*rnhhub using a title with the words “school girl from Colombia” and “forced.”
Immediately upon learning of the video, the girl contacted OUR, a nonprofit dedicated to combatting child trafficking who demanded the videos be removed, but during the 7 months the video was on P*rnhub it was downloaded and reuploaded multiple times.
P*rnhub monetized her abuse videos, distributed them to 5 million users per hour and earned profit from her trauma.
The victim sued P*rnhub/MindGeek in US federal court in California.
Here is a small sample of evidence we have about P*rnhub’s complicity:
-The CEO/owner admitted in emails that they did not verify the age or consent of any of the millions of individuals in the homemade user generated sex videos on the site. (10.6 million videos and 32 million images)
- They ignored victims who were begging for their abuse videos to be taken down including underage children.
-When they did respond to victims they would hassle them to prove they were underage or victims of rape in the videos.
-Legal filings show they also ignored police demands to remove underage abuse on multiple occasions. If videos were removed they would just get uploaded again and again.
-The company had 1200 employees and was making hundreds of millions per year, yet they employed only 10 moderators per 8 hour shift for all of MindGeek/Aylo’s tube sites including P*rnhub, Redtube,YouPorn, Xtube and more.
-Moderators were reprimanded if they watched less than 700 videos per shift and were expected to watch up to 1200 with the sound off. Some of the more experienced moderators would skip through over 2000 per shift.
-Multiple whistleblower moderators have said their job was not to remove content, it was to allow as much content to go through as possible because more content=more traffic=more money.
-Legal discovery proved Pornhub had only ONE person employed 5 days a week to review flagged videos.
-They had a backlog of 706,000 flagged videos.
-They had a policy not to even review a flagged video until it has over 15 flags.
-A victim could flag their rape 15 times without ever triggering a review of the video.
-The CEO called their flagging policies “good and reasonable” in uncovered emails.
- On September 1, 2023 text messages exposed in legal discovery were published by the court where MindGeek employees said “The problem is that management does not want the rules [against criminal content] enforced.”
-The depositions published Sept. 1 confirm that P*rnhub was hiding child sexual abuse they knew about from authorities and not reporting any child rape to law enforcement for over 13 years until the #Traffickinghub movement went viral. Not reporting CSAM is a criminal offense in Canada where their headquarters is.
- The depositions confirmed P*rnhub wasn’t employing any industry standard technology tools to detect or remove child sexual abuse for over 13 years.
-The CEO admitted in emails it was obvious that they were trying to hide their policies from the credit card companies.
-Tapes were published this week of a P*rnhub senior employee who was at the company since 2007, caught on hidden camera in 2023 admitting the executives were confronted about the fact their policies encourage and allow sexual crime to easily be uploaded and monetized. The CPO told the concerned employee to “f*ck off” and “shut up.”
Hold them accountable.
I was kidnapped, they emptied my bank account and my people still paid ransom, they took my car and damaged it. One of them transferred money directly from my account to his, one bought air time directly from my bank. Took all evidence to police and was asked to pay N200k, I let it slide.
A month after that, police at Enugu stopped me while driving back to Abuja, planted a dirty panties in my luggage while searching it and threatened to shoot me right there if I argue and do not cooperate with them. They labeled be a yahoo boy/man.
In Abuja the next week, a police lady slapped me for nothing. I slapped back and her colleagues who are men attacked me, one wanted to stab me with a dagger.
The last thing that made me say, "fuck it" is the day vio personnel in Abuja attacked me, one entered inside my car and nearly made me to crash into a fence of ya'dua center. In fact @whitenigerian witnessed this one. Right there I realized Nigeria serious want to kill me by all means. Next day me and my wife started the process of leaving.
I once gave my ex boyfriend's family an invoice after they asked that I bake for them and they looked shocked, I don't know who gave them the idea that I bake for free. 🤣
