@IanThewildside We bought a new build. Started our garden from scratch. Nice lawn, flower and shrub border. Grassy meadow. Woody shrubs and small trees. Yew and hawthorn hedge. Raised veg beds. Nature is thriving! π
@CarlBovisNature This has now been extensively covered in the news and on social media.
There isn't any excuse for this cruel behaviour.
Time for the authorities to rock up and show some steel in dealing with these idiots, or are they waiting till it gets cold and they'll be gone anyway π
@TheCinesthetic Costner's accent may well be iffy (as was Christian Slater's Irish/West Country drawl), but for me, it doesn't detract from the film as a whole.
It's a fantastic, hammy romp, one I've watched countless times and of course Rickman steals the show.
Know the difference... π
Here are 4 similar birds that spend most of their time in the sky, which I've photographed recently. π¦
1. Swift - All brown, but can appear black against the sky. Short forked tail, long scythe-like wings. π¦
2. House Martin - All white stomach and throat, appears black on the back, but with blue tinge. short wings, short forked tail. π¦
3. Swallow - Red throat, white stomach up to a dark band below the throat. Long forked tail with streamers. π¦
4. Sand Martin. Similar to House Martin but even shorter, slightly forked tail, white stomach with dark chest band and white throat. Brown on the back. π¦
Other information to help with identification;
If your bird is on a wire or post, it's definitely NOT a Swift.π (Swifts only land to nest, everything else they do in flight, including eat, drink and sleep!)
If your bird is nesting under eaves, it's definitely NOT a Sand Martin.π Sand Martins nest in holes in sandy cliffs.
If your bird is screeching, it's a Swift. π
Next time you go out, look up and see if you can identify these birds. They're all summer visitors to the UK. β₯οΈ
@CarlBovisNature We have lots of House Martins nest building in next door's eaves.
They also cling to the wall of our house. Their chattering is an absolute delight. Makes me so happy when they return May each year.
Sadly haven't seen any Swifts so far, but quite a few Swallows luckily π
@Joanna19997073 Both being tired after a busy week, we decided to have a TV dinner for a change.
One unpalatable advert later, hubby says:
'Back to the table?' π³
@SorchaEastwood My youngest son would have struggled at uni. He was extremely bright, but socially shy.
He decided on an engineering apprenticeship and 16 years later, after working his way up, he's been given the role of principal engineer, and what's more, he's debt free.
@urbanponds101 I've been in a very similar situation with my Mum.
I can only say, you will find strength you didn't know you had. Trust in that.
Thoughts are with you π«
