I’ve been thinking a lot about adding playfulness back into my life.
How did I start doing that?
Don't spend too much time around someone whose primary way of engaging with life is as a martyr. When suffering becomes your identity, you only see the hard parts of life.
Had this conversation with some children today that “play” is important in adult life as well.
For me it’s cooking, cleaning, organizing, painting, drawing, reading, etc…
For my husband it’s woodworking, driving, building robots with our kids…
Not enough adults are understanding that they have to create moments of happiness in their lives. Find things to be excited about. Create plans to look forward to. Decorate the house during holidays. Make a playlist you only listen to on Tuesdays. Keep your favorite snacks stocked in case of a bad day. You have more control over your joy than you think.
The attitude toward children in Mexico couldn't be more different than the U.S.
Children aren't merely tolerated, they're actively welcomed everywhere. And not in a weird, overly patronizing way
They're just expected to be part of any typical adult situation, not tucked away in a safety-labeled, anesthetized, parallel kids' world
