At BAM on a Sunday with the best dressed delegates from BAMun for our mock conference. Excited to see these kids debate, confer, and find resolutions for global issues. #MUN@BAM_MS_Official @PaigeOch
Students and exploring different forms of narrative nonfiction. It’s more than just books! Each group became experts in a different form and presented to the class. @BAM_MS_Official#collaboration#communication
So excited for Day 1 in the BamEx. Loved having kids in person again!! Ss made some guesses about me and we debated on different English content. So much fun seeing the collaboration and communication on the first day! @BAM_MS_Official@rdawson2213
I ❤️when students show curiosity and thought about different topics. Talking about how the brain works and the connectomes within is so interesting with 8th grade students. Sometime we talk about more than 📚books in English class! #connections@BAM_MS_Official@WIRED
Am I an English nerd? Why, yes I am. Am I excited for the @Newsela Teacher Trainer Program? Again, yes I am! I can’t wait to start and share all I learn about Newsela with my fellow educators! #FEEDtheBear@BAM_MS_Official
Yes! When I don’t like to do something, having someone tell me to do it anyway never helps. Kids feel the same. The “because I said so” or “because it’s required” is not a good reason to a kid. Humans, adults and kids alike, need to know why and feel connected. #NCTE20
“A good editor is the ultimate manipulator. A good editor makes manipulation feel like friendship.” Stroke the ego, ask questions, & get back to it. @JasonReynolds83 schools us on the editor-writer relationship. First drafts are bad but don’t be afraid to keep writing. #NCTE20
@JasonReynolds83 & #christophermyers have shaken my educator’s mind to it’s core. “Do children not know how to question an author’s work because they’ve been told not to question authority?” Reading & writing are like sports: Practice for the one day. #NCTE20#liveinthedeepwater
Fan-girling big time right now! 😱Hearing @AlanGratz talk about his book coming out this fall. Ss devour his books and I❤️seeing their excitement when his books are available in our library. Also, loved teaching “It’s on like Donkey Kong” this year! #NCTE20#buildyourstack
Powerful voices in today’s @brownbookshelf session. How educators can incorporate black authors and stories in our classes. It’s about identity, culture, joy, and of course, confluence. I have ❤️ reading and sharing the stories of @ibizoboi @LeahsMark & Tiffany Jewell #NCTE20
One of the most articulate and passionate speakers. Had such amazing insight on literature and the power it has on our lives and perspective of the world.
"One of the biggest reasons I love literature and I'm eternally grateful for my English teachers is that they didn't just teach me how to read, they taught me how to understand." @Trevornoah#NCTE20
@Trevornoah just made a Goonies reference. 😱 He’s amazing. “You can read the same story time and time again and depending on where you are in life, the message and lesson will change.” #NCTE20#mycupisfilled#englishteachersarethebest
