In honour of Islamic Heritage Month, Grade 2 students @HaroldFLoughin enjoyed the story Big Red Lollypop followed by a discussion and writing about a time when they showed respect.@amtulejaz
To recognize Islamic Heritage Month, grade 2s @HaroldFLoughin enjoyed listening to the story “Yo Soy Muslim” read by our amazing librarian Ms. Nijjar followed by a discussion . Then they came up with their “I am” poem to celebrate their identity @amtulejaz
Gr2/3 online collaborating on #GoogleJamboard We read That’s Not Fair, Why Must I Cut My Hair and dived right into learning how to stand up for ourselves. Then read the book Get Up, Stand Up based on Bob Marley’s song. It was amazing.@amtulejaz@HaroldFLoughin@PeelSchools
Today we focussed on key points about Islam for #IslamicHeritageMonth & shared a few muslims we know. Ss saw a pic of my wedding ceremony in a masjid (mosque), & observed patterns & geometric shapes in it. Then we coloured our own geometric bookmarks. @amtulejaz@PeelSchools
Got this in the mail this week. Thx to my principal @amtulejaz for ordering the books you did for the staff to gain knowledge and understand our society. Let’s stand together #blacklivesmatter@HaroldFLoughin@PeelSchools
@realJ_Mitchell@MissNaushahi You are spot on. How are we supporting our Ss by letting it pass by... My Ss from gr2-gr5 have always been able to talk about what is going on in society and the world. I do say that I do not know all the answers but will do my best to understand and learn more.
Have conversations with your students about racism, discrimination, stereotyping, police violence, justice (or lack of it). For those of you saying that your classrooms are all white & therefore these convos don't need to happen - actually these convos are even MORE important...
Please share if you know a teacher: So, I try to say very little on this platform. But I cannot hold this back.
To my fellow educators: I understand and respect "professional judgement", however, I implore you - PLEASE DO NOT CONTINUE TO INFLICT PAIN ON OUR BABIES in the name..
