@mikesully97@DonkeyKonging@rastokke Haha, don’t have to be a gymnast to see he was perplexed and criticizing Ed’s use of MI. Shall I quote from the his own speech? It absolutely proves everything I said. But, I have a feeling this a a useless conversation for us both. Rather spend my time working with my students.
@mikesully97@DonkeyKonging@rastokke That’s what I just said. Application of his work was the issue. MI was not LS. LS was someone taking his work and oversimplifying and applying.
@mikesully97@DonkeyKonging@rastokke Not all science is cause and effect. Hypothesis, observable evidence, reject or accept hypothesis. Fits what Gardener did. It wasn’t a controlled study which is why he clarified the conclusions, but philosophy doesn’t use case study method, just thought experiments.
@rastokke We have used the science that has been regurgitated to us. With no access to data bases it is difficult to read up. The real issue is science of learning tells us very little about application. -variables are numerous. It isn’t the lack of science but oversimplification of it.
@mikesully97@DonkeyKonging@rastokke But it was “application” of the science of multiple intelligences. This “science” of learning tells us very little about application. Then, the variables are numerous. It isn’t the lack of science but the religious oversimplification of it.
@theDRAMAgoat1 But, if you are on a site where the norm is to share and you send me a link to your TPT store, you are going to get why I think that sucks.
Kid: “Hey Mr. Kay, can you PLEASE give a fake quiz on chapter 12?”
Me: “Why?”
Kid: “So {redacted} didn’t read, and he asked us what happened, and we told him all sorts of crazy stuff, like Jack cooked and ate Ralph at the end…”
Me: (🤣😂) “Now you know you wrong for that…”

@theDRAMAgoat1 Classes that actually teach the students about their neurodivergence and explicitly teach them tools that help them negotiate tasks and coach them through adjustments or other things to try if they don’t work for them. Goals would be written around strategies.
@effortfuleduktr@usedgov@edutopia @ISTEofficial @czi@teacher2teacher There is a difference between learning styles and preferences as the former indicates an innate characteristic that lead to perceptions. Preferences are more about what they are more likely to pay attention to for longer.
A score in the grade book records a moment in time of learning.
So, then, in a new moment, we should be open to recording a new score.
Grades should never be closed cases.
And if they ever are, what is it that we are guarding?
Open learning to the many moments ahead.

@alexislmartin @ehanford Unfortunately, for most, time isn’t an issue, it is the strategies used and the variables the child is facing. They need different rather than more of what didn’t work in the first place. Many interventions are already about “more time” with little to no impact.
@josephalawrence@lesliebm81302 Live and work in an affluent city. School and almost whole district is Title 1. Surrounded by wealth that hides the poverty.
Anyone know of good PD on: IF you are trying to joke, remember they are 15 and insult humor is misread?” Or: get help for your own SEL so you don’t hurt their SEL? Or simply: how not to be an a**hole to kids?
