At our first PD of the school year, most teachers surveyed reported they would not use AI and are worried about cheating - an indication that more education is needed.#EDTC627F23

@SamanthaBahna I am wary of AI (ChatGPT); nothing original can come of it. Students struggle with plagiarism, copyrite laws, and the like all through high school despite it being taught in every grade (4-12). In addition, they already struggle with thinking of ideas on their own. #EDTC627F23

@dina_toledo @Amyhinkson30 @SamanthaBahna AI can help with editing, but it is not 100% accurate 100% of the time with grammar, etc. Last spring, I tried it in Grade 9 English classes, and we compared tone, diction, and sentnece structure. It was useful but nothing amazing. #EDTC627F23

@yismail1234 Monster is a popular independent reading choice for 9th & 10th grade. They also like the graphic novel, but really love how Dean Meyers wrote the novel like a screenplay.

A3: We all agree: read multiple and reliable reviews, research the author, purpose, etc. If possible, get a copy of the book and examine it yourself. With picture books, it is essential to make sure they are accurate, authentic, and help the author tell the story. #NJLibchat

Not all families have the money to purchase books, the means to travel back and forth to a public library or a lib in their area; public school libraries are the most accessible way for children and their families to have access to literature. #NJLibchat
