1/4 Joan Miró 1893-1983
Born in Barcelona, Miró was a painter, sculptor, and ceramicist. He began art lessons aged 7. After art school, his early work was influenced by cubism but he is best known for his automatic style of surrealism art.

3/4 It's not known how Miro started his paintings but some shapes & lines are repeatedly used & adapted like the ones below. The video shows how you might start. The artist uses a collage technique to add colour but you could just use pens and pencils.

Dalí used melting clock images in sculptures too. Create a melting clock piece of art howeve you choose. I cut out some clock faces & inspired by the painting created this photographic image with my garden in the back like Dalí used the hills from his home in his.

3/4 The Persistence of Memory is Dalì's most famous painting. The mountains are from his childhood There has been no definite explanation as to the meaning of the clocks. When asked, Dali said he was inspired by a wheel of cheese that had melted.

Design a surreal creature with someone. Fold a piece of paper into 4. Each take a turn to draw a 'body' part on each section without looking at what the previous person had drawn. Take care to extend your piece slightly into the next section so you know where to join drawings

1/3 In Art Club we've covered pop art and abstract art. This time we are looking at two surrealist artists, Salvador Dalí and Joan Miró.
Surrealism art emerged in the '20s, inspired by dreams, fantasy and thoughts we don't even know we're having.

Before we have a look at Dali and Miró, let's create our own piece of surreal art. Images that are surreal combine unrelated elements (things) to create a bizarre scene.
Using this 'stuff' I had in my house, I cut out bits to make this surreal picture.
