F/U: This week I worked on mentoring a S during a focus on phonics. I made sure to give the steps I needed her to follow in order to segment the sounds 1 at a time and tried not to overwhelm her. As a result, she was later able to apply the strategy on her own.#HCPSread

A5:Using an admiring lens, focusing on what S could do & talking to them about what they are missing. This gives S confidence with things they are familiar w/ and they can build up to bigger choices w/ strategy use. Helps us meet S where they are & support growth. #HCPSRead

A4:When we focus on what to do we are reinforcing the behavior we want the Ss to do. Starting with an action word gives Ss something to try right away & their attention is on what they can actually do, not what not to do. #HCPSRead

A3:It's important to do less over time so readers don't become dependent on you for the steps. This insures that Ss are taking ownership of the process b/c they are doing more as we do less & they choose the strategies they need as readers. #HCPSRead

Having a document camera to use during our zoom lesson helped me to show Ss how I was recording my thinking. I was able to break down the skill into steps and it was easier for them to see what I was doing as we went along. #HCPSRead
