1/3 Loss of life in our city is tragic at any time, but the loss of Latjor Tuel is particularly devastating. Mr. Tuel was loved by friends & family, and was a well-known member of the Sudanese community in Calgary. He was in crisis & we are left with so many questions.
1/6 I have spent the last 12+ hours reflecting on the provincial announcement to lift pandemic restrictions. In that time, I have seen concern from healthcare workers, teachers, parents, businesses & many other engaged Calgarians. All feel their voices went unheard.
Hey, thanks for talking about mental health today.
Talking is good, but words won’t help someone barely hanging on. Words won’t help someone desperate for support.
Words won’t help. But actions will.
Demand action on mental health from politicians, not empty words.

So, to summarize the school update:
1. Kids need to go back to school because it's a magical place.
2. Just showing up at a school in person somehow fixes mental health problems without adequate resources or supports.

Schools have 1,000 fewer teachers and EAs than they had before the pandemic. Kids deserve to have staff there permanently, and consistently, to allow them to catch up and address all of the losses they experienced last year. #ableg#abed

It is important to learn, understand and acknowledge why these 'numbers' are significant. It is not about sensationalizing this history but shaping current events so we all can heal; not to overlook, normalize or silence these little children any longer but to bring them home. 🧡
Thousands of Calgarians marked Canada’s 154th birthday Thursday by reflecting, listening, and participating in ceremonies to show solidarity with Indigenous peoples. @CTVMarkVillani https://t.co/USbB2dOSoI
I love this country
I care about it deeply
Every day, I fight to make it a better place
Right now, we are in mourning as unmarked graves are found
And, as Indigenous communities grieve
They have asked that we mark #CanadaDay in reflection not celebration
I will honour this
