Sharing who we are is a powerful teaching tool. Ms. George-Hughes shared her experience of #vitiligo - a disorder that causes loss of skin color in patches. What an impactful presentation from an amazing teacher sharing her lived experience! @lynda_watters @tdsb@TDSB_MHWB
So sad to hear of John Kearns death. We put together orders for elementary math teams @TDSB schools for years. He always found what I needed- even matched my dollar store prices for dice and playing cards. I was looking forward to saying hi at the #Spectrum booth at OAME.
Well this is awkward…a supposedly woke-indoctrinating Ontario educator has actually been working w/ >150 teachers & administrators for months on supporting early years students’ attainment of foundational math skills using research that’s been promoted by this government 😬
Slightly belated but no less important… our completed door mural in honour of #internationaldayofpink2023 💕🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️ Our student artists designed and executed this incredible collaborative project. #courage
As promised… we worked through this today. Q: Why did this diner want to speak to the owner? S’s: Maybe they wanted to give a tip for the extra pizza? Then they solved it and although they understood the problem they still felt bad for the waiter having to do math @ work! 😂
Timed tests don’t measure what students know. They assess how students perform under stress.
Data: tests under time pressure underestimate the abilities of girls—especially in math, where test anxiety is high.
If students can't finish a test, make it shorter or give more time.
@Jason_To We just finished up this unit before March break. My incredible gr. 7&8’s will tell you to make zero pairs to keep it balanced as we simplify the equation- even with variables on both sides of the equation. We also used virtual algebra tiles on @brainingcamp to demonstrate. 🙌🏻
Screaming, crying. Congratulations @realsarahpolley for winning a #Oscar for best adapted screenplay for the stunning film #WomenTalking. It is truly a love letter to survivors. #Oscar2023
Let’s cheers to Sarah Polley 🎉
The Canadian filmmaker receives her first Academy Award for WOMEN TALKING, which won Best Adapted Screenplay at this year’s #Oscars.
Students deserve direct, front-line mental health supports NOW. Educators are doing our best to support the needs of all students, but we are simply not therapists, social workers, or psychologists. #OntEd
