Privileged to engage with #NSELA60 leaders today to discuss the current historic moment & diverse sense-making from #SciEd frame. Here are my slides—PDFs, PPTs. I so appreciated the authentic & vulnerable conversation! #EquityFirst

Thank you @Mrs_Mongelli and @RHSiCoach for your support throughout this past quarter as I tried out a LOT of new ideas! Our Ss carried out REAL science to build, test, revise, & evaluate their algae farms as a solution to climate change🌎
Ss in @MsVanValen's class shared engineering successes & improvements, and used a peer feedback protocol to individually share noticings/wonderings on the sticky side of post its, followed by group discussions (a
@PBLWorks
strategy we experienced this summer!) #RandolphSchools
Excited to meet @MsVanValen’s honors biology classes tomorrow- they are about to dive into an epic engineering project! We are using scaffolds to support students’ understanding of the engineering design process (thanks @KnowlesTeachers) 🎉 #NGSS#engineering
Love when new inquiry activities work out! Students activated prior knowledge of photosynthesis & chemical indicators to interpret the photosynthetic ability of different flasks. So many "ah-ha" moments! 🌿
This week in #APBio ... we explained how our cells communicate to maintain homeostasis using neurons! Good opportunity to have important & relevant conversations about substance abuse, tolerance, & addiction (on the cellular level!)
Making non-fiction txt comprehensible to our SpEd & ELLs is part of our push towards equity in science. Here are 2 versions of the same Performance Task text. We used https://t.co/xmGXGqMvPL to quickly identify potentially problematic words. How do you incorporate reading #NGSS
Student- led class modeling activity today!
“Can I add on to yours?”
“So I was thinking... and I heard this from other people too...”
“Would anyone like to agree or disagree?”
“Oh, you want to add on?”
ALL from students!!! #proudteacher@NGSS_tweeps#ngsschat#ngss
Making great progress designing authentic project-oriented units thanks to a lot of productive discussions with colleagues. Excited for September! @PBLWorks
Happy 4th of July - here are some cellular fireworks!
This oligodendrocyte is actively growing its microtubules. It's expressing fluorescent EB3, a protein that binds to the plus ends of microtubules and shows that most microtubules have directed growth away from the cell body.
