I always thought Black Women not being picked on Love Island was a Geography problem so I modelled Love Island UK S5–11.

White men from rural England/Wales/Scotland: 5% ever coupled with a Black woman. 5 of these was actually the woman choosing the man.

If they cast from cities where diversity and interracial dating is higher:

→ Bristol (never cast): projected 24%
→ Birmingham: projected 27%
→ Nottingham: projected 25%

And it’s not just White men. Black men from low-diversity hometowns: 12% coupled with a Black woman.

Black men from high-diversity areas (Lewisham, Newham, Croydon): 60%

Projected using a regression model fitted to the observed data, the more diverse a man’s hometown, the more likely he was to couple with a Black woman, and I used that relationship to estimate rates for cities that contestants aren’t typically casted from.

Love Island typically cast people from places like Essex or Kent etc where influencers are from with low diversity.

@vorkay_ @korejay Not necessarily true. Many new build flats bought w H2B are now in negative equity. I know someone struggling to sell a flat for £375k after paying £450k for it. With new build houses you’re better off getting an older house already renovated- they’re desirable & easier to sell
