Unprecedented... in a bad way. A Dominican sister.

A chemist.

A professor.

A pioneer in spectroscopy.

While Watson and Crick became famous for the double helix, Sister Miriam’s work helped clarify how the bases of DNA were arranged.

She developed a potassium bromide method that improved infrared spectroscopy and gave scientists a clearer view into the chemistry of life.

Most people imagine laboratories and convents as opposite worlds.

A woman religious, in a habit, studying the building blocks of life.

And the deeper she looked into creation, the more creation pointed beyond itself.

➡️ Faith did not make her afraid of science.

➡️ Faith gave her a reason to seek truth.
