I really enjoy this question too because especially in today's world we take so many things to such far extents just to prove something simple. I think often people lose sight of what they actually 'stand for' about because of our fast-paced, competitive lives. #sensemchat
@CSHSeniorSem I found it incredibly inspiring when Dr. King asks us “what kind of extremists will we be” (178). What will we stand for, and what potentially “extreme” notions of justice and love can we bring into our lives today? #sensemchat
A4: Because Greg Boyle acts on kinship, I think his nonviolent living is evident through how he accepts anybody back into society. This is because most people attribute justice to be getting some type of 'revenge' on someone/something, but he doesn't believe in that. #sensemchat
A2: Dr. King discusses that "there are two types of laws: just and unjust" (174). From this he goes on to say that one who follows the moral law/law of God is just. Therefore, I think it is dangerous, but a just person is acting on what God wants them to do. #sensemchat
I used the same quote, but I like your take on it too! I agree and think that negotiation can be one of the first steps to creating positive change. #sensemchat
#sensemchat A.1 In Dr. King's "Letter from Birmingham Jail" he continually refers to a tension "that a community which has constantly refused to negotiate is forced to confront the issue" (172). In this way, non-violence accomplishes an openness to neogitation.
A1: Just as Dr. King says "nonviolent direct action seeks to create such a crisis and foster such a tension that a community is forced to confront the issue" (172). This shows that non-violence acts can spark movement in a community whether it goes somewhere or not. #sensemchat
