@truss_83 @cr0wgirlirl Renly can still argue Stannis isn’t fit for the throne as he’s a heretic before he gains the blessing of the Faith. Once Stannis is dealt with he can take King’s Landing, execute Joffrey and use the High Septon to retroactively legitimise his claim.

@truss_83 @cr0wgirlirl Yes, the Tyrells were wiser and knew they couldn’t seize the throne without a claimant. By de-legitimising Stannis I mean de-legitimising him in the eyes of the smallfolk, and yes their support matters for the monarch’s rule (e.g riots against Rhaenyra)

It’s also missing the open goal of using the best softpower asset in Westeros - the Hightowers to delegitimise his brother making him the “rightful” king.

It takes time to build institutions that outlast the current leadership and there are serious problems, but so far its 100x an improvement on what it was under Assad.

Under Assad Syria was closed off from the world, destroyed neighbourhoods were left as rubble to prevent people from living there, militias and foreign occupations ran amok and the state became a massive drug cartel.

@SyrianLib Yeah, the reasons it failed were numerous but imo the primary ones were economic grievances, authoritarian behaviour and lack of popular support even within its military. This popular discontent allowed the Syrian Gov to swoop in while the SDF faced mass defections
