Rohingya in Maungdaw Township believe that fleeing to Bangladesh offers a better chance of survival. People continue to flee, but the chances are very slim.

On the evening of August 19, 2024, a boat carrying more than 30 people left Maungdaw and capsized that night. Only four survived.

This month alone, almost a hundred people have died in boat capsizes, including one incident on the evening of August 5, 2024, when a boat was bombed by the Arakan Army, leaving only two survivors.

I don't want to keep asking the international community to do anything they can. If the international community hadn't failed and didn't continue to fail, this wouldn't be happening.

Seven bodies of Rohingya were recovered today. These people were fleeing to escape the second wave of genocide happening in Arakan State. Sadly, they lost their lives while crossing the Naf river.

Very saddened to hear approximately 30 people lost their lives in boat capsized while attempting to escape from Maungdaw.
While the whole country is suffering and being targeted by military junta and it is vital to know that the suffering of Rohingya is different from the suffering of others from gravity , intensity , shape and acceleration stand point.
It only requirs common sense and sympathy to distinguish the level of suffering of “if a stick is falling on a unhealed bloody wound and the level a stick is falling on normal part of body”. The Rohingya in Rakhine state are “Genocide” survivors and living in a open air prison since 1992 with movement of restrictions et.. .

Just learned that heavy fire is on going in Maungadaw while civilians in particular the Rohingya are struggling to survive. The humanitarian situation is very dire and many civilians lost their lives while attempting to be displaced. We must do more including finding innovative solutions for delivery of humanitarian assistance and civilian protection mechanisms.

Maungdaw downtown — Rohingya area — has been burning since 7:30 PM local time. It has been under the full control of the Arakan Army (AA) since this morning. No Myanmar military forces have been present in the downtown area since last night.
