BREAKING: At least 17 people have been killed in Dangulbi, Tureta LGA of Sokoto State after heavily armed bandits stormed the community during Eid-el-Kabir celebrations.
Among the victims were 7 visitors who had travelled to Dangulbi to spend the festive period with their families. The attackers reportedly looted shops, displaced residents and left the community in mourning instead of celebration.
The latest attack adds to growing concerns over persistent insecurity across Nigeria, where civilians continue to bear the brunt of armed violence.
How many more lives must be lost before communities can celebrate in peace and security?
The Tinubu government has proven itself grossly incompetent when it comes to protecting innocent Nigerians.
Children and their teachers were kidnapped, and yet they remain in captivity while those in power continue with business as usual.
It's been 19 days. Fayose and Mbaka...
I have received, with a very heavy heart, albeit with total submission to the will of Allah, the news of the passing of the Chief Imam of Nghar Village in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State, Sheikh Abdullahi Abubakar, who departed this world at the remarkable age of 92 after a brief illness.
Sheikh Abdullahi Abubakar was not just an ordinary Imam, but a moral compass, as well as a living embodiment of the true teachings of Islam. His heroic actions during the 2018 Barkin Ladi crisis, when he selflessly sheltered and saved the lives of more than 200 Christians in his own mosque at great personal risk, remain one of the most profound demonstrations of faith-driven courage and humanity in our contemporary history.
At a time when fear and violence threatened to consume reason, the late Imam chose compassion over hatred, and conscience over cowardice. His insistence that the sanctity of human life transcends religious and ethnic trajectories earned him global admiration and widespread eulogies across the world. In that defining moment, he reminded humanity that Islam stands firmly for the protection of life, justice, mercy, and peaceful coexistence.
What Sheikh Abdullahi Abubakar did at that time represented Islam in its purest form. The Qur’an teaches that saving one life is akin to saving all of humanity, and the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) consistently upheld the protection of non-Muslims, neighbours, and the vulnerable. The late Imam lived these teachings through his actions when he saved his neighbours who would otherwise have been nefariously slaughtered.
As we mourn his passing, we also celebrate a legacy that will continue to inspire generations within and beyond Nigeria. History will remember Sheikh Abdullahi Abubakar as a global symbol of peace, interfaith harmony, and moral courage.
On behalf of myself and my family, I extend my heartfelt condolences to his immediate family, relatives, loved ones, the people of Barkin Ladi, Plateau State, and indeed all Nigerians who were inspired by his life of service, humility, and uncommon bravery.
I pray that Almighty Allah (SWT) forgives his shortcomings, rewards his noble deeds abundantly, and grants him Aljannatul Firdaus. May Allah also grant his family and loved ones the strength and patience to bear this great loss.
Prof. Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami, CON, (Majidaɗin Daular Usmaniyya).
Thank you for all the love and care you have shown my brothers. I didn’t even realise how special they are. I’ll just be walking with them and cracking jokes with them, not even knowing God kept me in the presence of great men. 100% it’s tough for me, but I know it’s even tougher for their parents ❤️ I have a strong mind, and I believe God knows their hearts. May God have mercy on my brothers 🙏🏾
Dear Inspector General of Police @PoliceNG,
We write to express our deep concern over the incident that occurred yesterday, in which our friend, Salim @AM_Saleeeem, was forcibly taken from his hotel room by officers of the Nigeria Police Force for an offence that has neither been disclosed nor formally communicated to him or the public.
In line with the Police Act, 2020 (as amended), particularly Section 38, the Nigeria Police Force is empowered to arrest a suspect only on reasonable suspicion of having committed an offence, and such arrest must be carried out lawfully, transparently, and without abuse of power. Furthermore, Section 35(1) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended) guarantees every citizen the right to personal liberty, stating clearly that no person shall be deprived of this liberty except in accordance with a procedure permitted by law.
Additionally, Section 6 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA), 2015, expressly prohibits arbitrary arrest and detention, and mandates that arrest should not be used as a tool of punishment, intimidation, or harassment. The Act also encourages the use of invitation or summons where the identity and address of a suspect are known.
Salim is a well-known individual, and his residential address is publicly known. In such circumstances, the law clearly provides that he should have been formally invited to report to the police station to respond to any allegations, if any exist. Forcibly taking him from his hotel room without prior notice, warrant, or disclosure of offence amounts to unlawful arrest and detention, which is a direct violation of the Constitution and the Police Act.
This manner of operation dangerously mirrors the activities of kidnappers who abduct innocent citizens, and it is deeply troubling to see law enforcement officers engaging in conduct that undermines public trust and the rule of law.
We respectfully demand the immediate release of Salim or, in the alternative, that he be formally charged before a competent court of law, in line with constitutional provisions.
Today it is Salim; tomorrow, it could be any of us.
We trust that your office will treat this matter with the seriousness it deserves and uphold the principles of justice, legality, and professionalism for which the Nigeria Police Force is meant to stand.
Yours faithfully, Musa Yahuza Kiliya.
I just received a phone call that our brother and friend @AM_Saleeeem has been picked up by armed men believed to be policemen from the hotel where he’s staying in Abuja.
I’m still gathering more information as of this post, but the message needs to be out there already.
