I remembered when the Emir of Kano Aminu Ado Bayero adviced Remi Tinubu to let her husband know that Nigeria was going through hell. But of course, BATists, the Presidency and even Sam Omatseye all attacked the Emir mercilessly.
Now is the Catholic Bishops telling Tinubu to his face the same thing the Emir was worried about and as usual, attacks are pouring on them especially on the Cardinal Onaiyekan himself.

The President was asked about Nigeria's problems.
He didn't deny them. He rejected exaggerated language and defended his government's response.

Security? More funding, new Army divisions, Forest Guards, and no surrender to terrorists.

Economy? Tough reforms aimed at long-term stability, not empty promises of instant prosperity.

Mission schools? That's a constitutional responsibility of state governments.

INEC? He says politicians should first fix the crises inside their own parties before accusing the electoral body.

You may disagree with his positions, but expecting the President to echo the opposition's talking points was never going to happen.

If there are better ideas, bring them to the table. The next election will ultimately be decided by competing records and competing solutions.

Your statement would carry more weight if the government showed the same concern for transparency & accountability that it now demands of a respected cleric.

The meeting was not a classified national security briefing. A religious leader speaking truthfully about issues discussed with the President; particularly matters affecting millions of suffering Nigerians, is not a breach of dignity. It is part of the moral responsibility expected of those who speak for the people.

The real controversy is not that the cleric spoke. The real controversy is that Nigerians are enduring economic hardship while those in govt seem more concerned about controlling the narrative than addressing the substance of the concerns raised.

Quoting Scripture to lecture a bishop about discretion is misplaced & funny..The same Scriptures repeatedly call on leaders to defend the oppressed, uphold justice, and listen to honest rebuke.

Rather than attacking the messenger, the Presidency should focus on responding to the message. Nigerians need relief, not lectures on protocol.

A lesson for APC leaders: never underestimate the prejudices of perpetual agitators. Hoping they will behave or react differently will forever lead to regrets. The Bishop is certainly not speaking for the Catholic Church or Nigerians but for his political interests and sentiments. The access granted solidified and made potent his narrative.

The Presidency should firm up. Things won’t get easier with their deployment of disinformation. They don’t want the good or unity of the country. They are fighting a lost battle and they need to muddy the waters. 🤷🏽‍♂️

I just watched the video. And to be honest Jonathan responded a 100% better than the old fraud we have as a President. Infact what Kaigama said was even much serious than what Onaiyekan have said but yet Jonathan did not dismiss them or rejected their submission. Tinubu is truly a failure.
