Al-Baqarah 2:9

They [think to] deceive Allāh and those who believe, but they deceive not except themselves and perceive [it] not.

Al-Baqarah 2:8

وَمِنَ ٱلنَّاسِ مَن يَقُولُ ءَامَنَّا بِٱللَّهِ وَبِٱلۡيَوۡمِ ٱلۡأٓخِرِ وَمَا هُم بِمُؤۡمِنِينَ

And of the people are some who say, "We believe in Allāh and the Last Day," but they are not believers.

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ forbade the practice of al-qaza', which involves shaving part of the head while leaving another part unshaven. He said, "Shave it all, or leave it all," when he saw a boy with part of his head shaved and part left untouched.

Al-qaza' refers to a haircut where some areas of the head are shaved, and others are left with hair.

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ observed this practice in a boy and issued the instruction to either shave the entire head or leave the entire head with hair.

There shall be no compulsion in [acceptance of] the religion. The right course has become distinct from the wrong. So whoever disbelieves in ṭāghūt[1] and believes in Allāh has grasped the most trustworthy handhold with no break in it. And Allāh is Hearing and Knowing.

“Whoever has hair, let him honor it.”

(Sunan Abu Dawood, Hadith 4163, graded Hasan by Al-Albani).

This Hadith encourages Muslims to take care of their hair, suggesting it is a blessing that deserves respect and proper grooming. The phrase “let him honor it” implies care, cleanliness, and not shaving it off without purpose—so it aligns with the idea that keeping hair is something commendable.

There’s also historical context from the life of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), where he is described as having shoulder-length hair at times and taking care of it.
