This is Hajiya Hassau Iron Anko, From Katsina State, NORTHERN Nigeria, interviewed in 1957 while she was just 21 years.

She was born in kankia town on 10 November 1936 and received her elementary education in mani (1942-1943)

The North has always been known for its literacy evennbefore colonization.

Hajia Hassau Iro Anko was the first female graduate of Katsina, was given a fountain pen as award from the Emir.

Hajia Hasau Iro Inko was a Nigerian educationist and women’s rights advocate, recognised as the first female degree graduate from Katsina State. Born in Kankia, she pursued education when it wasn’t the norm for women in Northern Nigeria, earning a National Certificate in Education from Zaria and a degree in Infant Methods from the University of Nottingham.
When she graduated from the Girls Training Centre in 1949, according to Archivi, the Emir of Kano awarded her a special prize of a fountain pen for being “the most helpful and reliable in school.” Her career spanned teaching, administration, and public service.
She obtained a Diploma at the Institute of Education, ABU Zaria. Between 1971 and 1972, she studied at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, where she obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Education, thus becoming the first female graduate in Katsina State. She also studied at the University of Nottingham, England (1972–73)

The message couldn’t be clearer:
Alignment with imperialists leads to stagnation and subservience. If you want improved living standards in West Africa, your future lies with the AES—free from imperialist strings—not with ECOWAS, where leaders too often act as puppets.

The choice is ours. And the evidence is already on the table.

The Federal Government has suspended the proposed increase in WAEC and NECO registration fees for 2027 candidates, which would have raised the cost from ₦27,500 to ₦50,000.

The Ministry of Education said the decision was made to allow for broader consultations with stakeholders following widespread public opposition.
