In a meeting with national leaders yesterday, I learned that the pandemic has caused the US to administer 2.3 million fewer doses of HPV vaccinations. And the gap is worsening by the day. This is an urgent. We can't abandon a generation of young people to HPV cancers.
Allowing adolescents to consent may help improve HPV vaccination rates. Should we take a closer look at how we engage teens in basic preventive health decisions? @CR_OliveiraJr@YaleSPH@YaleYcis@HPVRoundtable https://t.co/AyKa6LVJcq

Study by @ChangMDPhD, @Muhellingson, @ChrisRFlowersMD, myself in OFID looking at influenza vaccination in patients with and without cancer dx. Good: ⬆️uptake in pts w cancer compared to no cancer. Bad: only 64% vax'd, with big diffs b/t cancer types
Our paper “Communicating With Vaccine-Hesitant Parents: A Narrative Review” is out! It focuses on key communication approaches to reduce hesitancy in the patient/provider interaction - all are applicable to the adult context.

Excited to announce that Yale University Library (@YaleLibrary) has signed two agreements that will allow @Yale-affiliated authors to publish in any PLOS journal without paying article processing charges. #OpenAccess#OpenScience https://t.co/Ho2Ub3ZmOY
On #WomenInScienceDay day I have to shout out the original woman in science for me - my mom @kg_science who made it so I never once had to doubt that science was somewhere I belonged ❤️
So lucky to have been supported by her and many other amazing #WomenInScience since day one!
As someone who has never been interviewed on television (and is not likely to be) I spend a lot of time thinking about what camera angle in my apartment would get me the best rating from @ratemyskyperoom
Publishing #openaccess is a great way to improve access to and transparency in science, but the cost can be prohibitive - important to consider how this influences whose research is available open access
From memes to a manuscript! Thanks @JoshuaDWallach for giving me a chance to turn my saltiness about the cost of publishing #openaccess into such a fun and interesting research project!
Great to see this go from @medrxivpreprint to @BMJ_Open publication! So proud of @Muhellingson, who designed/led this project, evaluating the financial burden of open-access academic publishing on individual researchers.

There is so much misinformation and fear-mongering around #COVID19 vaccines for pregnant and nursing women. A brilliant @YaleMSTP student @Aliceluculligan and I wrote this OpEd to dispel these myths, and provide relevant facts. Please share widely.

"Goal 1: Restore trust with the American people"
So excited to see trust prioritized so highly in @POTUS COVID-19 strategy. Trust is essential to any successful public health campaign and particularly a vaccination campaign!

Biden is vaccinated. He’s at a distance, while working with a staff that should also have been vaccinated, in a space that should be very well ventilated. He shouldn’t need a mask. It’s a symbol of solidarity to wear one. It’s good.
Motivational interviewing is an evidence-based communication style that is used to help people make behavior changes.
It can also be a powerful tool to help address vaccine hesitancy.

In the weeks and months ahead, the Biden-Harris administration will take key steps to dramatically increase #vaccinations in this country. Read more about our plan in @USATODAY:

It's worth paying close attention to vaccine acceptance in healthcare workers, as we're likely to face similar challenges in the general population. Great insights from @abuttenheim, @WhitneyEpi, and @SaadOmer3 in @voxdotcom.
