HAPPY NATIONAL DOCTORS' DAY 2026
THEME: HonourTheCalling
On behalf of the entire P-MUS-led NARD NOC, we proudly celebrate the dedication, resilience, and unwavering commitment of Resident Doctors across Nigeria who remain at the forefront of healthcare delivery.
This year's theme, #HonourTheCalling, is a fitting tribute to the courage and sense of duty that define the medical profession. For Resident Doctors in Nigeria, it reflects the daily choice to serve despite demanding work schedules, resource constraints, personal sacrifices, and the immense responsibility of caring for patients under challenging circumstances.
Across rural communities, secondary facilities, and tertiary institutions, Resident Doctors continue to answer the call with professionalism, compassion, and excellence. They heal the sick, comfort the vulnerable, advance medical knowledge, and form the backbone of specialist healthcare training and service delivery in our nation.
Today, we celebrate not only the work you do but also the values you embody—service, sacrifice, integrity, and hope. Your commitment sustains lives, strengthens our health system, and inspires future generations of medical professionals.
As we commemorate National Doctors' Day 2026, we honour your calling, applaud your sacrifices, and express our profound gratitude for your invaluable contributions to humanity.
Happy National Doctors' Day to all Resident Doctors.
Thank you for honouring the calling and for your steadfast service to the nation.

NARD COMMENDS STATE GOVERNMENTS ON RESIDENT DOCTORS' WELFARE, CALLS FOR NATIONWIDE EMULATION
The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (@nard_nigeria), under the able leadership of Dr. Mohammad Usman Suleiman, proudly commends the Governments of Plateau and Osun States for demonstrating exemplary commitment to the welfare of Resident Doctors and the strengthening of healthcare delivery within their State Tertiary Health Institutions (STHIs).
We particularly applaud the Executive Governor of Plateau State, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, for the full implementation of the Professional Allowance Table (PAT)—a landmark achievement that reflects a strong commitment to healthcare workers, improved service delivery, and quality patient care.
NARD also highly commends the Executive Governor of Osun State, Senator Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke, for the implementation of PAT, Specialist Allowance (SA), 2026 MRTF, Annual Leave Bonus, and Accoutrement Allowance. These laudable interventions exemplify visionary leadership and a genuine investment in the healthcare workforce.
We equally recognize the efforts of the Benue State Governor; Rvr. Father Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, for implementing SA, Accoutrement Allowance, and the revised CONMESS structure. We, however, appeal for the prompt implementation of the 2026 MRTF and the newly approved PAT.
NARD appreciates the concerted efforts of the Cross River State Governmenor, Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu, for approving CONMESS salary structure to Medical Doctors in the state.
NARD also appreciates the Kaduna State Governor; Senator Uba Sani, for the payment of the 2026 MRTF and Accoutrement Allowance to Resident Doctors, while encouraging the implementation of PAT and SA.
Similarly, we acknowledge the Governments of Ogun and Kwara States for the payment of the 2026 MRTF. We respectfully urge both states to expedite the implementation of PAT, SA, and outstanding Accoutrement Allowance arrears.
In the same vein, NARD respectfully calls on the Executive Governor of Lagos State, His Excellency Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu; the Executive Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori; the Executive Governor of Oyo State, His Excellency Engr. Seyi Makinde; the Executive Governor of Gombe State, Alhaji Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya; the Executive Governor of Taraba State, Dr. Agbu Kefas; and other state governors with similar concerns, to graciously approve and implement PAT, SA, Accoutrement Allowance, and 2026 MRTF for Resident Doctors under their employment scheme.
At a time when Nigeria continues to grapple with an alarming shortage of doctors, worsening brain drain, and poor doctor-patient ratios across many states, investing in doctors' welfare is no longer optional—it is a strategic imperative for strengthening healthcare systems and improving health outcomes for Nigerians.
NARD remains committed to constructive engagement and collaboration with state governments in advancing healthcare delivery and improving the welfare, training, and professional development of doctors nationwide.
We also encourage Resident Doctors across all states to continue bringing their welfare and training concerns to the attention of NARD leadership. Be assured that, NARD will remain proactive, resolute, and unwavering in defending the rights and interests of its members.
When doctors are valued, healthcare thrives.
We further call on the Nigerian Governors' Forum (NGF), under the leadership of its Chairman, the Executive Governor of Kwara State, His Excellency Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, to encourage all state governments to prioritize the welfare of Resident Doctors and join the growing league of states setting commendable standards for healthcare workforce support across the nation.

As a young lecturer, if you receive an external scholarship for your MSc or PhD, don't sign a bond with the university simply because they pay you a salary. Take leave without pay. That salary can be a trap or a distraction.
You don't even need it. The total salary a Nigerian university pays you over the entire duration of your PhD is often no more than N4–5 million. This is about one or two months' stipend paid by some international scholarships.
It makes no sense to sign the same bond intended for TETFund beneficiaries, who receive N70 million for tuition, research, and living expenses, in addition to their monthly salaries.
Don't let any university claim full sponsorship of your PhD just because it pays you $100 a month. Avoid unnecessary distractions. Be completely free.

There are two categories of people that go for Hajj: Those the Almighty called and those He did not call.
Those He called are those people whose wealth is pure, whose livelihood is clean, and whose hearts are genuinely seeking their Lord.
Those He did not call are those who fund their journey with stolen wealth, oppressive gains, or the blood of innocent people.
So, during Talbiyah, when the true pilgrims declare their presence, the Angels return a beautiful response to those the Almighty called:
لبيك وسعديك، زادك حلال، وراحلتم حلال...
"Here I am at your service and blessed you are. Your provision is lawful, your transport is lawful, and your Hajj is accepted."
And when those He did not call shout their "Labbayk", the Angels will say:
لا لبيك ولا سعديك، زادك حرام، ونفقتك حرام، وحجك مردود عليك
"You are not welcome, and there is no blessing for you. Your provision is unlawful, your wealth is unlawful, and your Hajj is thrown back in your face."
Any person who stole money (haram wealth in general), terrorized humanity, or killed to go for Hajj is a sign he is amongst those who will be utterly wretched. The Hajj is only a testament of how unfortunate he/she would be on the day of resurrection.
The glamour and the picture may be there, but I can tell you they would be worse off. You cannot loot people dry and then think a trip to Makkah works like a magic eraser. Allah is pure, and He only accepts what is pure.
Allah knows best.

Every day, we show up.
We answer emergency calls, make difficult decisions, work through long shifts, and remain committed to providing the best care possible because every life matters.
The conversation has never been about asking for more than we deserve. It has always been about ensuring that we Doctors have the basic conditions needed to provide safe, timely, and quality healthcare.
When healthcare workers are supported, patients receive better care. It really is that simple.
Supporting Us is an investment in a stronger healthcare system for everyone.
We shouldn't have to always go on strike before changes are made!!!
You borrow N100,000 from a loan app charging 25% for thirty days. That is N25,000 in interest on a single month.
If you cannot clear the principal and keep rolling it over, borrowing again each month just to survive, after twelve months you will have paid N300,000 in interest alone, three times your original loan, and you still owe the original N100,000.
This is the loan app trap destroying young Nigerians right now. You borrow small to solve a small problem. The interest is small enough each month that it does not feel dangerous. But twelve small months later you have paid triple the loan in interest and the debt itself has never actually gone away.
These apps are not designed to help you recover. They are designed to keep you paying interest indefinitely while the principal sits untouched, because a borrower who never fully repays is a customer who never leaves.
Saw this and it captures my experience exactly 😂😂😂
“😂THE FIRST TIME I SAW 300 LEVEL MBBS MCQs, I ALMOST CALLED MY PARENTS TO COME AND WITHDRAW ME 😭💔
Nothing prepared me.
Secondary school taught me that MCQ means:
A, B, C or D.
Pick one and go home.
Medical school said,
“You poor innocent child…” 😭😂
The first question I saw was:
A. Statements 1 and 2 are true.
B. Statements 1 and 3 are true.
C. Statements 2 and 4 are true.
D. All statements are true.
E. None of the above.
I looked at the paper.
The paper looked at me.
Both of us were confused. 😭😂
Then another one came:
If statement I is true and statement II is the correct explanation, choose A.
If statement I is true but statement II is not the correct explanation, choose B.
If statement I is true and statement II is false, choose C.
If statement I is false and statement II is true, choose D.
If both are false, choose E.
Omo…
At that point I wasn’t writing an exam anymore.
I was solving a family dispute. 😭💔😂
I read it again.
Still didn’t understand.
I even turned the paper upside down as if the answer would fall out. 😂
Then came TRUE/FALSE questions.
The lecturer would write:
“The liver is the largest internal organ.”
I smiled.
“Easy. True.”
Then I looked again.
It actually said:
“The liver is the second largest internal organ in healthy adults under specific physiological conditions except otherwise stated.”
😭😭😭💔
Excuse me??
Who added all these subtitles??
Medical school doesn’t ask whether you know.
It asks whether you know the exact wording. 😂
You’ll see five options:
✅ True
✅ True but incomplete
✅ False but almost true
✅ True except in rare circumstances
✅ All of the above except none of the below 😭😂
By the third question your brain starts making notification sounds.
“Low battery: 5% remaining.” 🔋😭
Then there is always that one friend.
After the exam you ask,
“Guy, how was it?”
He says,
“It was straightforward now.”
Straightforward??
Brother, were we in the same hall?? 😭😂
Another friend starts discussing answers loudly:
“For number 17 the answer was obviously C because statement II explains statement I through negative feedback involving the hypothalamus…”
Omo please…
Some of us are still trying to remember what course we just wrote. 😭💔😂
The funniest part is changing your answer.
You shade A.
You think.
You erase.
You shade C.
You think again.
You shade E.
Five minutes later you return to A.
At the end, the answer key says…
B. 😭😂💔
And don’t let the lecturer say after the exam,
“The questions were simple. They only tested understanding.”
Understanding??
Sir, the options alone were conducting viva on my destiny. 😭😂
Then results come out.
You score 48%.
You celebrate like you won the lottery because your roommate scored 32%. 😂💔
That was when I realized that 300 level is not just about intelligence.
It’s about surviving psychological warfare.
Because in medical school, sometimes the question is not asking what you know.
It’s asking whether your brain can still function after reading the options. 😭😂🩺”
Three Texts, One Page: The Konduga Qur'an!
Nigeria's Hidden Qur'an refers to the Konduga Qur'an (MS 380808), a 17th- or 18th-century manuscript from Konduga in Borno State. It is one of the most remarkable surviving examples of sub-Saharan Islamic scholarship, known for its unique three-tiered page layout.
Interestingly, each page contains three layers of text. These are:
1) Main Qur'anic Text: Written in the traditional Barnawi calligraphy style developed by Borno scholars.
2) Arabic Commentary: Placed above the lines, showing ongoing scholarly dialogue with centers in Cairo and Istanbul.
3) Old Kanembu Glosses: Written below the lines in Kanembu, one of the oldest written languages in the Lake Chad basin.
When the original Venetian paper wore out, a later owner hand-copied the entire book onto Italian paper to preserve it. The manuscript also features intricate, colorful geometric chapter headings and traditional protective ink invocations.
Today, the original Konduga Qur'an is housed in Special Collections at SOAS University of London. Since it has never been publicly exhibited, the best way to explore it is through digital showcases.
Historically, the Kanem-Bornu Empire holds a foundational legacy in West Africa for its exceptional contributions to the transcription and preservation of the Qur'an. Centered in the Lake Chad basin, the empire's scholarly elite developed a highly sought-after tradition of handwritten Qur'anic manuscripts.
A people without knowledge of their past history, legacy, origin, and culture is like a tree without roots. (Video attached)

NARD DEMANDS URGENT FEDERAL INTERVENTION IN OAUTHC CRISIS, WARNS OF NATIONWIDE SOLIDARITY STRIKE
The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) expresses deep concern and disappointment over the worsening industrial crisis at the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospitals Complex, which has culminated in the indefinite strike action embarked upon by the Association of Resident Doctors, OAUTHC (ARD OAUTHC) from 8:00 a.m. on Monday, 22nd June 2026.
NARD WARNS OF IMMINENT STRIKE OVER PROTRACTED CALL MEAL DISPUTE IN LUTH, DEMANDS URGENT FEDERAL INTERVENTION
The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) expresses grave concern over the persistent failure of the Management of the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) to resolve the long-standing issue of call meals for resident doctors, despite repeated complaints.
To my mind, the bail conditions in the El-Rufai case are onerous and impractical. The salary of a Director on Grade Level 17 (including all possible allowances) is less than N10 million a year.
Unless they inherited it or owned it before they joined the Civil Service (unlikely!), any Director in the Civil Service who owns property in Asokoro or Maitama in his name, and comes forward to post bail for anybody at all, should be immediately arrested and asked to explain the source of their wealth. They probably will be too.

I already apologized to IBUPROFEEN since yesterday
But he says:-
1. I am an errand boy for MDCN
2. I am using HOs for campaigns (I don’t know for which position
3. I am doing ‘self acclaimed heroism’
In addition to my apology, I’d like to ask Mr IBUPROFEEN if he has gotten his salary by now and to make sure he is ok?
I’d like to add that I am no hero to anyone, I know I am not, the association I lead know I am not and the entire body of doctors know I am not. I am only serving and my tenure will expire after September
Secondly, I have no more campaigns to run in NARD and maybe even in the greater doctors polity now or in the future. If he doesn’t believe I communicate with anyone on behalf of HOs then so be it. Nothing wrong with his belief (except reality sha)
Thirdly, even MDCN know I ain’t an errand boy. The reality is they don’t pay salaries. I won’t because of leadership derangement syndrome call it like it is not and falsely accuse them of what’s not in their purview to execute.
Lastly, someone should kindly help me talk to Mr IBUPROFEEN to relax. I mean no harm and if it will make him feel better, I can continue doing what I do without ‘communicating’ any of it.
Pls IBUPROFEEN , confirm that u have gotten ur salary.
Cheers!
