Yes, I said it.

As sensitive as it sounds, masturbation has quietly become a growing issue in many marriages, and ignoring it won’t make it disappear.
Marriage was designed to be a place of connection, intimacy, and safety. When self-gratification replaces shared intimacy, it often points to deeper matters that couples are avoiding.
So what’s really happening?
• Emotional distance — unresolved conflicts, lack of communication, or feeling misunderstood can push partners inward instead of toward each other.
• Stress and exhaustion — financial pressure, work stress, and parenting demands drain emotional and physical energy, leaving little room for connection.
• Unmet needs — not just physical, but affection, reassurance, appreciation, and peace.
• Technology and private habits — constant phone use, secrecy, and isolation create private worlds within marriage.
• Silence around intimacy — many couples can argue about money or relatives, but can’t talk honestly about intimacy.
Let’s be clear: the problem is not desire. Desire is normal.
