African "Bridgerton" coming soon

South African production company, Ochre Moving Pictures has optioned the rights to six novels from the Royal House of Same series to adapt into television series.

The story of the books, penned by Ghanaian romance novelist Nana Prah, as well as Empi Baryeh, Kiru Taye and Zee Monodee, is set in a fictional African kingdom and tackles the contemporary themes of royalty romance and rivalries.

The screen adaptation is said to be envisioned as to be visually akin to the hugely popular Netflix global phenomenon "Bridgerton" series. With that, and budget allowing, we can expect opulent sets and wardrobe.

Ochre Moving pictures is the production company behind etv's popular soapie "Scandal" and Netflix's series "Fatal Seduction", BET's "Dream: The Lebo Mathosa Story" as well SABC's "Good Men", amongst many other titles.
