@berkeleyMCB@schmidtsciences Incredibly grateful to Schmidt Sciences! This would not have happened without the people in my lab, past and present, who drive our most creative work. This award will give us the freedom to explore new problems across disciplines. Excited to see where it takes us next!
What would it feel like to go with the flow inside a cell?
A lovely new Current Biology Dispatch by Dyche Mullins on work led by Cathy & Jim Galbraith "expands our cellular imagination" to the cell's own sluices, pumps & dams.

@dieworkwear@gregosuri Great thread, as usual. You are making me nostalgic for the now sadly defunct Glaser Designs of San Francisco. They were a great family-owned artisanal business.
@_OmQu Great question. The process is SOOPER fast; kinetically limited by how quickly filaments slide past each other. Might be hard to make it go significantly faster

Lovely analysis by @MullinsLab of a somehow underrated effect: Membrane tethering reduces molecular diffusion from 3D to 2D, which can accelerate local actin polymerization. Super important when contemplating 3D in vitro metrics in cellular context!

New study out on bioRxiv! We have studied how resources are shared between actin networks competing for a limited pool of components.

The high point of any graduate program retreat has to be the Booth-Buchwalter cocktail party. Young faculty like this give me hope for the future. @dsboothacosta @abbybuch
Interesting...the virome of the last eukaryotic common ancestor is bacterial, not archaeal.

This may be evidence that a bacteria engulfed an ASGARD archaea, rendering it immune from viruses, not the other way around as is typically assumed. Cool!
Congratulations to CMP Assistant Professor Jeannette Tenthorey (@JTenthorey) for receiving the NIH Director's New Innovator (DP2) Award! @UCSF@UCSFMedicine@UCSFcmp
Visualizing moth wing scale development with @KyleDeMarr from @MullinsLab on @amsikking's AIRR snoutscope today! Using a 1.3 oil-immersion lens to image >100 um deep past the moth's cuticle. Absolutely gorgeous biology and microscopy.
So excited and grateful for this fantastic support for our lab! This is an honor earned by the lab as a community of fantastic, smart, and wonderful colleagues. Congrats, team!
Superstar inaugural Manor Lab postdoc Cara's new paper is up! Here we show ER-actin accumulates at ER-organelle contacts to regulate their fission and mobility. This applies to mitos, lysos, and endosomes, and is mediated by INF2, an ER-anchored formin. https://t.co/s8ZBpcUkDA
