My yeast and human genomics lab investigates lipid storage diseases as well as traditional medicines with Māori & Pacific Island organisations and communities.
Congratulations to Storm for defending her PhD thesis! Ngā mihi nui (thank you) @manucaddie for starting this project---inspiring research with Hikurangi Bioactives. From @WellingtonUni@VicUniWgtn to @Columbia --best wishes Storm on your postdoc with @RebeccaHaeusler.
Great thread. Congrats on the new paper reporting the mass spec method you, Allegra and your team used to detect iron chelation of compounds in our @Seeseei1 Samoan medicinal plant.
biology. Biology, the interior of the cell is a sea of metals, yet we mostly think of small molecules without their counter-ions. When @mraffatellu asked us if we could help find the zinc-binding molecule in E.coli nissile, @petras_daniel and @AllegraAron teamed up in the
Happy to be awarded one of these this year for a collaboration with Ilia Voskoboinik from @PeterMacCC for our work on cytotoxic lymphocytes in lysosomal storage disorders, following on from our work in NPC. Congrats Ilia!
Fa’amalo (Congratulations) @Seeseei1 and Helen for leading our new publication in @PNASNews.
1st PhD student (Seeseei) & 1st first postdoc (Helen) in our lab: you both are premiere scientists.

Proud to be part of an upcoming public lecture at the Florey with my colleague @HungYaHui and Mandy from @NiemannPickOz - we will talk about how clinicians and researchers can partner with families in ultra-rare disease:

This is durian. Chemists identified ~45 molecules that make up durian’s odor covering a variety of smells: honey, roasted onion, caramel, skunk & rotten egg. A recent study narrowed those down to just two molecules the researchers say can mimic the fruit’s overall smell.
@SiouxsieW Same here with our proposal being "ranked in the fourth and fifth quintile". Are they acknowledging here that they do not have scores for all proposals? Assuming all proposals are scored, most useful/transparent would be the scores themselves and not an average quintile.
Awardee Dr Seeseei Molimau-Samasoni 🇼🇸 said that her own experience as a young woman working in #agscience meant she was driven to learn how to build a work environment that was inclusive and supportive for other young women entering the field.
