Congratulations to Gen. Douglas A. Schiess on becoming the third Chief of Space Operations of the United States Space Force!

Having had the privilege of working for @SpaceForceCSO in USSF S3/4/7, I have seen firsthand the qualities that make him an exceptional leader. He has a rare ability to maintain a clear focus on the mission while never losing sight of the people entrusted to accomplish it.

That balance is not easy. It requires judgment, humility, and the willingness to listen. Gen. Schiess consistently demonstrated those qualities.

Sir, I wish you tremendous success as you lead our Guardians into the next chapter of the Space Force. The nation needs leaders who understand that strength is built not only through capability, but through character, unity, and service.

Tonight, my thoughts and prayers are with the good people of Nepal and with every family suffering through the devastating loss and destruction caused by this tragedy.

For some of our neighbors here in Northern Virginia, this is not a distant disaster. Their parents, children, brothers, sisters, relatives, and friends are still missing. They are living through the terrible uncertainty of waiting for news from someone they love.

In moments like these, we are reminded that while oceans and mountains may separate us, our shared humanity brings us together.

I pray that God will comfort those who mourn, give strength to those who continue searching, and bring hope to families still waiting for word of their loved ones. May He protect the rescuers and volunteers who are working tirelessly amid unimaginable circumstances.

And may we remember that compassion is more than a feeling—it is a call to stand with one another when the world feels darkest.

May God bless the people of Nepal, comfort every grieving family, and bring hope and healing to all those affected.

As we’ve welcomed the world during the FIFA World Cup, I’ve enjoyed reading the many stories from visitors who have been inspired by the beauty of our country, the kindness of our communities, and the warmth of the American people. Those reflections have reminded me just how blessed we are.

As we celebrate the 250th anniversary of our nation’s founding this Fourth of July, I hope we also celebrate the ideals that have united generations of Americans: freedom, opportunity, service, and hope.

As a proud veteran, husband, father, and citizen, I believe our greatest legacy is not only what we have inherited, but what we choose to build for the next generation. May we continue to lead by example, invest in our students, strengthen our communities, and inspire young people to believe in a bright future.

To my friends, neighbors, and colleagues here in Loudoun County and across our nation, I wish you and your families a safe, joyful, and meaningful Independence Day.

I just watched Young Washington in the theater, and it was phenomenal…without any doubt a true leader is forged by challenge, guided by principle and a calling to serve!

Like many people, I thought I knew the story of George Washington. I was wrong.

Whether you were born in Virginia or anywhere else in America or the world, I encourage you to give this film a chance. I truly believe you’ll walk away having learned something you didn’t know and with a renewed appreciation for the remarkable people and events that shaped our Nation.

History isn’t just about the past. It’s about understanding the values and courage that continue to inspire us today.

As a retired U.S. Air Force Lieutenant Colonel, I’ve often reflected on the oath I took to support and defend the Constitution of the United States. That oath has continued to inspire my commitment to serving our community long after my military career ended.

As we celebrate our Nation’s 250th anniversary, I encourage you to take a few minutes to watch this fascinating video by Glenn Beck about the summer of 1776. It vividly reminds us that our Founding Fathers didn’t simply write the Declaration of Independence—they risked their lives, their families, and their fortunes for the cause of liberty.

Their courage and willingness to sacrifice for something greater than themselves should inspire all of us to be good stewards of the freedoms we’ve inherited and to continue serving our communities with purpose.

Last night, my wife and I attended a concert by award-winning singer and songwriter Forrest Frank at Jiffy Lube Live in Bristow, VA. I have to admit, I went mostly because she’s a huge fan and I didn’t know much about him.

Mother Nature almost had other plans. A thunderstorm delayed the show for 30 minutes, and standing outside, soaked with no shelter, wasn’t exactly enjoyable. But my wife was determined, so we stayed and hoped the show would go on.

I’m glad we did.

When Forrest Frank finally took the stage in front of over 20,000 fans, including entire families with young children, the atmosphere was electric. What impressed me most wasn’t just his music, but his energy and authenticity. Several times throughout the evening, he stepped off the stage and ran around the venue, interacting with fans with high-fives from the front rows all the way to the lawn seats at the far end of the venue.

In an industry where artists can sometimes feel distant, his genuine connection and appreciation for the audience was refreshing. His passion and commitment is remarkable too considering he had played at the Madison Square Garden, NY the night before and is maintaining this pace night after night (he’s in Albany, NY tonight and Hershey, PA tomorrow).

Needless to say, I arrived as someone who simply accompanied a fan and left as one myself.

If you have the opportunity to see Forrest Frank live, I highly recommend it. We met people who had traveled from other cities and states just to attend and now I understand why. His itinerary is below:

Memorial Day is much more than the start of summer or a long weekend. For many of us who have worn the uniform, it is a solemn reminder of the brave men and women who never made it home.

Today, I ask our community to pause for a moment and reflect on those who paid the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our nation, our freedoms, and our way of life. Their courage, selflessness, and devotion to duty secured blessings that we often enjoy without realizing the tremendous cost behind them.

As a retired Air Force officer and proud American, I remain deeply grateful to those heroes and to the families who continue to carry their memory forward.

May we never forget that freedom is not free.

God bless our fallen heroes, their families, and the United States of America.

I had the extraordinary privilege of watching my daughter graduate with honors from the College of William & Mary this past weekend. It was a moment filled with immense pride, gratitude, and unforgettable “Dad moments.”

Seeing the dedication, perseverance, and hard work of these young graduates come to fruition was truly inspiring. I pray for God’s continued blessings upon my daughter and all the recent graduates as they begin this exciting new chapter in their lives.

Last Saturday I attended an important community event hosted by the Parent Coalition to End Human Trafficking. Hearing directly from survivors and experts made one thing clear: human trafficking is not a distant issue—it’s present in our region and increasingly impacting our youth.

One point that stood out deeply: the majority of victims are not who people often assume:

• 80% of trafficked youth are “community kids”—students from everyday families.
• More than 90% of exploited/trafficked children are still attending school at the start of their exploitation…some even live at their homes and the parents don’t know they are being trafficked!

That reality changes how we must think about prevention. Here in Loudoun County we have more than 20 families recovering from this tragedy.

In Northern Virginia, our position as a major transit and economic hub brings both opportunity and risk. Additional takeaways that deserve attention:

• Reporting in Virginia is rising, reflecting greater awareness but also the scale of the challenge.
• Approximately 25% of victims are minors, often targeted due to instability or lack of support.
• Recruitment is increasingly digital, happening through social media and gaming platforms our students use every day.
• Labor trafficking remains under-recognized, affecting industries many families rely on.

As someone committed to strengthening our schools, I believe this is where prevention must start. If most victims are still sitting in our classrooms when exploitation begins, then our schools must be equipped to respond.

That means:
• Training educators and staff to recognize early warning signs
• Building trusted environments where students feel safe speaking up
• Partnering with parents to increase awareness of online risks

This is not about politics—it’s about public safety and protecting children. It requires collaboration between schools, families, law enforcement, and community organizations.

84 years ago, on April 18, 1942, the brave airmen of the Doolittle Raiders carried out one of the most daring missions of World War II under the leadership of James H. Doolittle.

Launched from the deck of the USS Hornet (CV-8), these volunteers flew into the unknown with courage, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment to something greater than themselves. Their mission reminded a shaken nation of its resilience and resolve.

As a retired Air Force officer, I reflect on their legacy with deep respect. Their example is worth sharing with the next generation—because true grit, service, and love of country are values that must be remembered, taught, and lived.
