@Forhanvv If the jailbreak somehow allows people to play GTA 6 from week 1, then it will be truly over for console gaming. Sony might actually go out of business.
@SteveSTechMan Why would the RTX PRO 6000 now hit $25k. Wouldn’t this imply a higher supply of high end GPUs, keeping the price relatively stable?
Do agree with you on the 5090 situation, if this turns out to be actually true.
Not so sure about that, there are more fabs coming online to produce more compute. Models continue getting smaller, better and more efficient. Even on the energy and electricity front, companies are increasingly being more innovative and more efficient. “Proprietary” software are slowly becoming obsolete and open source is becoming more widely accepted.
Even if I feel as though compute costs are excessive at the moment, I am very hopeful.
I'd expand the moats left to:
- Proprietary data or content: data nobody else has, or unique content you can create
- Network effects / community: users make it more valuable for each other
- Audience / distribution: you can get attention on demand
- Physical component: hardware, locations, real-world operations
- Capital: owning assets and investing (esp into the AI companies as they are and will suck up large parts of the economy)
- Regulatory: licenses and legal barriers
Honestly: Photoshop and other creative apps are childs play.
The fun starts when the big guns get into focus: Highly technical CAD applications with license costs in the 5, 6 or 7 digits per seat per year.
Cadence Xcelium, Innovus and Virtuoso. Synopsys DesignCompiler, PrimeTime, Synplify. Siemens Questa. Altium. AutoCAD.
I recently built an open source Schematic Tracer that is objectively better than anything that Cadence or Synopsys have ever done. In 3 days.
They're all cooked.
What’s happening in the AI-powered reverse engineering and decompilation is absolutely insane. Pretty soon all software will be de facto open-source.
AI is coming for everything and everyone.
Still think the 64GB DGX is a mistake for anyone to purchase.
I was kinda hoping Nvidia would have released the 256GB version as most of the large open source models required that much in memory to run at Q4.
And I’m really annoyed that your prediction for DGX sparks came true.
🤦♂️
Sony is getting absolutely hammered over its stance on game ownership.
>First Sony announced that are killing the disc and going all digital
>Then They are arguing in court that players don’t own the games they buy, only have a license to access them.
>Recently modders have managed to jailbreak a recent version of the PlayStation 5.
Now fans are telling Sony they no longer own their own hardware, they wanted a full digital console so people are doing that exactly that
Are people building mini data centers using PS5 Pro consoles? Did someone figure out a way to run Linux on it?
I bought almost the exact same console bundle for less than half that price 11 months ago.
Flagship compute products are getting insanely more expensive compared to the mid tier or low tier counterparts.
@Eliana_Goldin I'm a little shocked that it is that simple to start and operate a private school. Though I guess it really depends on the state. Highly doubt this can be replicated in states like California or New York.
