I would like to begin the new year with an analysis of the meaning behind Matrix: Resurrections.
I thought it was brilliant film, if perhaps with poor pacing and action, but I have yet to see anyone touch on its underlying message.
Spoilers abound.
@GMShivers The synthesis is Georgism. Land claims remove land from the commons and are therefore a passive, perpetual form of minor violence.
This can be measured in the form of ground rents. Tax the hell out of those, distribute the sum, and it balances the equation.
Yooo go to TooManyGames from Jun 26-28 in PA, play BOWLBO in person! Let the team know if it’s fun or not 🤓 I’m not going to be there as I have to attend a wedding, but please go show the team some love, they have worked very hard on it ❤️❤️❤️
@GeeksGamersCom I'll believe it when I see it, but I would certainly give them another shot if it's true.
The Legends timeline would be an alright path to take, but they seriously need a loremaster dedicated to metaphysics.

@MorosKostas Rent and other costs of living are legitimately too high, due to a global-scale siphoning effect derived from banking practices which were once banned, yet which now make up the foundation of our entire economy.
@axl99 You've come across something very important that everyone overlooks.
Look into Georgist economic theory, this pattern of ground rents is at the heart of most economic woes in general.
@Acyn Land cannot be both affordable and also a good investment.
The solution is Georgism. Tax the land to the point that it cannot be a vehicle for investment, and that its value is purely its utility. (Ignore the value of buildings and other improvements.)
@cafreiman The solution is to simply offset the effects of this force with an aggressive tax on ground rents. Ideally as a replacement for nearly all other taxes.
This will end speculation and make land cheap for everyone.
@cafreiman He's *almost* onto something, but like everyone, misses the obvious.
It's the land. They remove land from the commons, continuously use force to maintain the claim, and profit from artificial scarcity.
Even Adam Smith had a lot to say about ground rents.
@r_georgism For perspective, remember that each government employee's salary must cover their rent and basic living expenses at minimum.
Well if rent is deflated and they already receive enough from the dividend to cover it anyway, that's a massive chunk taken out of the cost per employee.
@r_georgism I figure the dividend should be the only thing funded by LVT, as an economic baseline. Otherwise it will be plundered.
On top of that, fewer programs are even needed at that point, and all are significantly cheaper, thus any additional taxes can be very minimal.
@WallStreetApes This is why we should aggressively tax the speculative value of the land itself, but ignore the value of fixtures and improvements.
This policy would make land and housing cheap.
