The family who bought our house called us eight months after we moved out.

The first thing they said was,

"We owe you an apology."

We had no idea what they were talking about.

The husband laughed nervously.

"Remember when you told us the hallway light sometimes turned on by itself?"

We did.

We'd joked that the house was haunted.

They went quiet.
Then he said,

"We spent nearly $2,000 trying to figure out why."

After they moved in, the light started doing exactly what we'd described.

Sometimes it would switch on in the middle of the night.

Other times, they'd come home from work and find it already on.

They replaced the bulb.
Then the switch.
Then they hired an electrician.

Nothing changed.

Finally, an electrical contractor suggested replacing the entire motion sensor that controlled the hallway lights.

The moment he removed the old sensor...

He started laughing...
