Not to brag, but I’ve been doing creative strategy + editing for DTC brands for around 3 years now.
And I’ve learned one thing:
Making an ad look good is the easy part.
Knowing what to say, who to say it to, and why they should care is where the real game is
I’ve studied a shit ton of DTC brands at this point
and you can pretty much tell which strategists are letting AI write their scripts
not because the scripts are bad
but because everything starts sounding the fucking same
same hooks
same structure
same pacing
same boring ass problem solution CTA
change the product and half the time you wouldn’t even know what brand you’re watching
AI is cool as fuck for speeding shit up
but if ChatGPT is doing all your creative thinking for you
your ads are gonna sound like everyone else’s
and if your ad sounds like everyone else’s
why the fuck would anyone stop scrolling for yours
@backastony At this point you might as well hire an agency or a in house team instead of managing 9 editors individually. Would probably save you a lot of time and make managing the whole workflow way easier
Bro some clients really think saying “this is a long term thing” automatically makes $10/video worth it 😭
Had a client tell me he wants someone he can trust and work with for years
Then offers $10/video for 1-2 videos every day
I told him I usually don’t even do per video pricing and told him my minimum for this workload
His response was basically “I can’t increase the budget because this is long term”
Like bro 😭
Long term is great but I’m still running a business
I’m not gonna take a low budget just because there’s a possibility we might work together for years
question for marketers especially juniors or people just starting out
if an agency or brand offered you a % commission based role to kickstart your career would you take it?
no retainer just a % of what you help generate
would you take the opportunity for the experience connections and a chance to prove yourself
or would you rather keep looking for a retainer
genuinely curious what you’d pick
@LaibaVisuals Hey, I have exactly the kind of stuff you’re looking for in my portfolio, if you still are looking for some one hmu my DMs are always open
@mathieuerd If you are still looking for some one hmu I got performance data and a good bunch of ads in my portfolio, would love to connect my DMs are always open
A creative can have a 40% thumbstop rate and still be a piece of shit
Because attention is not the same thing as persuasion. Here’s what I look at instead:
Thumbstop -> Hold -> Intent -> Conversion
If the thumbstop is high but hold collapses: Your opening is interesting, but the premise isn't
If hold is strong but CTR is weak: The story is entertaining, but the viewer has no reason to investigate
If CTR is strong but CVR dies: Your ad sold a promise the landing page can't cash
And if CVR is strong but CPA still sucks: You don't have a conversion problem you have an economics problem
That distinction matters because each failure requires a completely different creative fix
Most teams see “bad CPA” and make another ad. That's like changing the tires because the engine is broken.
Hiring AI Video Editors for DTC brand
Been live for < 6 months and is at 7-figures ARR
Have an AI tool that can print AI videos but I need someone to live and breath our tool and print ads.
Comp is $2k/mo + bonus performance OR % of ad spend.
You will make $10 - 20k/mo+ from being in this role.
Ideally you're working 40 hours a week on this.

After the whole situation with my previous client, I’ve got a client spot open
If you’ve seen my recent posts, you already know what happened 😂
The work was solid, the client literally said the editing quality was good, but things didn’t work out
So I’m looking for a DTC/eCom brand to work with on a proper retainer
I handle the creative strategy, research, ad concepts and editing, with a focus on actually making ads that perform, not just making them look pretty
If you’re running Meta ads and need more creative output, DM me
He literally told me “your editing skill itself is solid, quality of the finished work was good”
Then ended things because apparently the moment the price goes up, the entire previous conversation gets wiped from his brain
We agreed on $20/video for the trial. I told him I normally work on retainers and will be iterating it after the trial period (1 month), we discussed it during negotiation, and the agreement literally had a separate section saying the $20 rate was only for the initial trial engagement
Then the trial ends and I tell him we move to the normal retainer.
His response: “You never told me that” "You should have explained that correctly"
BRO WHAT THE FUCK 😭
I pulled up the messages I pulled up the agreement I showed him the exact section
And this is where it gets fucking funny
You think the work is good.
You literally told me the editing is solid.
You know we agreed on $20 for the trial.
You have an agreement sitting in front of you explaining exactly what happens after the trial I show you the messages where we discussed it and your conclusion is still “you never told me that”?
Then he hits me with “I can’t move forward, best of luck.” 😭😭😭
I was already making 3 minute ads for $20 just for the trial, and somehow I’m the bad guy for not wanting to keep doing it at that price forever
At this point I’m convinced some people don't read contracts they just sign them and hope the words change later
@benfjecom Well I got a lot of them to show you, if you still are looking for some one my DMS are open I am more than happy to share the results and the winner ads I created for supplement brands
